I LOVE the darkness too! It definitely ages it up a bit, but I also think it makes it more relatable for adults. Life is hard, and sometimes it's dark. I like that they didn't sugarcoat everything for kids. They literally throw out the idea of suicide in a Disney show.

Hahaha I loved Hygge! I think it's hilarious and the ensemble looks like they have a blast with it. I sat front row and was dying laughing because that angle is just really funny hahahaha! And the ensemble knows it, and makes a lot of eye contact and engages the front a lot during that number. Is it musical theater genius? No, but it wasn't supposed to be. It's supposed to be a light comedic moment that is kind of fluffy. I liked the interview with Bobby and Kristen where they talked about that song, it's purpose and feel and how they also just thought it was funny to write a naked song for a Disney show. Hahaha, but I recognize that song is not for everyone lol :)

Yeah maybe I was getting a bit crazy.  I've been stressing about choosing the right shows, & sort of worried I made the wrong choice with a Disney show.  I stopped at the mall on the way home from work & picked up a copy of the cast album & just now heard the Hygge song for the first time - pretty funny!

 

Per her Twitter, Alyssa Fox will be on for Elsa January 11-13 and January 18-20, 2019. As previously announced, Caissie Levy is going on vacation from January 8-13, 2018. So I guess it's safe to assume Ashley Blanchet will be playing Elsa from January 8-10. 

Also, I got to see both Lauren Nicole Chapman and Aisha Jackson play Anna this week so I'll post my reviews later!

For anyone who has seen Alyssa Fox, does she wear the pants ensemble during the second act? I'm seeing it on Jan 19th and that's my fav costume from the show!

Yes she does!

 

(Fun fact: Initially during her first shows in previews she didn’t have the pantsuit as they added the costume when they got to Broadway, and didn’t make one in time for Alyssa! She had to wear a different costume but I’m not sure which...)

I'm SO happy to see this be a thing. Ryann is so incredibly talented and this is one heck of a gig. Not gonna lie, it makes me want to go back to Frozen (which I didn't think I'd say this soon.) 

With Caissie and Patti extending another year, I'd expect Disney to start swinging Caissie out more for Disney events such as the Epcot International Festival of the Arts Broadway Concert series. They have Arielle Jacobs down there for a full week at the end of this month. So I'd expect to see Caissie there in 2020 unless someone cancels last minute this year. They haven't added any Frozen actors to the schedule yet even though songs are covered by other performers.

So I finally saw the show this weekend. I made the mistake of allowing my mom to buy the tickets so we took advantage of the Black Friday deal and she made the incorrect assumption that all Orchestra seats have a great view. As we know, that is not always the case:) So we were house left Row F in the center and the show was sold out so no upgrades available. Before I even sat down, I knew I would have to come back again for a center orchestra or mezzanine seat.

Anyway, overall I enjoyed the show and liked it a lot. I'm not sure I'd say I loved it yet but that is subject to change when I see it again. Believe it or not, the entire company was in. Not a single understudy so I got to see both Caissie and Patti. I thought they were both terrific as was the rest of the company. The role of Anna seemed to be written as more comedic than the movie so I thought Patti had really good comedic timing. I could see her doing sitcom work in the future. Caissie's vocals were incredible. I wish that the show had a bit more Elsa in it though--at times I felt like I saw more of Prince Hans than adult Elsa. Extremely impressed by Jelani and the 2 young actresses who played young Anna and Elsa. I loved the additional material at the beginning and thought it fit the story well. 

I also liked the new songs that were added. We had a couple of issues with the theater unfortunately which hampered the ability to hear well at times, especially during the True Love song. Someone was allowed in with an infant(I'm talking younger than 3 months) and at times said infant was crying. There were also a couple other times when kids were whining or talking loudly and it was just hard to hear the show. The ushers didn't do anything and the parents didn't take the kids out either. I feel for the actors in this show--the audience here definitely skews younger than the other Disney shows or an Anastasia so this must be a common issue. Disney did make the usual announcements at the beginning and also offered the screening area in the lobby if anyone needed a break from the theater. I guess people just didn't listen unfortunately. Maybe they should have repeated that announcement at intermission as most of the noise seemed to be during the 2nd Act.

Somewhat of a spoiler but I did not like how they handled the snow machine. It was a lot of "snow" really fast.  It felt like they kept refreshing the snow that was falling rather than just doing it once and stopping. It was also some type of thin tissue paper that easily stuck to my sweater and my mom's sweater. I had to vacuum my foyer after I got home because of all the "snow" still falling off me. I wish someone from this theater would go to the Walt Disney World or Disneyland and watch one of the Frozen shows there and see how the snow effect is properly done. Guests shouldn't still have snow falling off them 2 hours later.

Anyway, a very fun show that I enjoyed a lot. I will definitely be back in a Center seat most likely on a weeknight I will also be purchasing the cast recording this week.
