I basically needed oxygen after looking at the prices for the first preview. Could have squeezed two nights in New York after spending some glorious winter weather in St John’s Newfoundland.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

There's plenty of other performances with lower prices.

I’m coming from Australia, so sadly that was the only night that would work, how I miss the days when previews were priced as previews!

Absolutely. The greed in recent years has been really gross to watch. This was quite refreshing."

What you call greed is what investors call trying to get their money back in a reasonable amount of time. We're long past the days of shows trying to break even in 7-9 months let alone turn a profit, and that's assuming the show's a hit. So producers are left with two choices, raise ticket prices or pray the show's good enough to run several years to claw its way back. Both scenarios are daunting to say the least. You think Purple Rain has a chance with a $35M budget? No shot, not in this economy. That's why some of the biggest producers like Sir Mackintosh and Webber said they've basically given up Broadway. At the end of the day, if the math doesn't math, investors will get scared away. The only reason you're seeing these scale shows this season and maybe next is that these shows have been in development for years. It's too late for investors to pull out. I fear a lack of shows from 2028 onwards unless the Broadway model changes significantly.
