Loved her in Across the Universe. I haven't SEEN the show, but I'm sure she'll be great. But I wish they would just cut the character. Or at least cut it back to being the supporting character and beef up Mary Jane.

America Olivo must feel likeshe got slapped in the face. Does TV still u/s Mary Jane? If not, they'll need another Mary Jane u/s..maybe Alice Lee? She was great as Miss Arrow yesterday.

I was also curious how America Olivo (not to mention Jodi McFadden, the other "offical" understudy) must feel about this. Then again, it's not like whoever replaced Mendoza was going to get their "Peggy Sawyer moment" anyway.

I wonder if Taymor grew accustomed to Arachne being played by an Asian actress and wanted to have the character keep the same look? Can't be a coincidence.

BTW, when I saw the first preview, having wrongly assumed Carpio was the Arachne understudy (because I guess I'm racist or something), I thought to myself as Mendoza and Carpio were singing together at the beginning how weird it must be to be looking up a the girl you're understudying and singing in harmony with her. There was something eerie about it to me. And now Carpio has replace her in the role. Does this mean I have powers of premonition?

Well, seeing as Olivo is a swing, it would be much easier to replace Carpio than Olivo. They probably couldn't get enough rehearsal time for a replacement for all of the tracks Olivo covers.

Carpio has been alternating on the role since workshops though, no? Also, I don't know if you'd call her a big 'name,' but I think a select amount of Across the Universe fans would recognize her.

I saw Television as Arachne and she was okay. It's not like it is a career-making role or anything. The song about shoes certainly does no one any favors.

...well it seems that they gave America Olivo another role to understudy as a "consolation prize" IBDB now lists her as an understudy for Aunt May as well.
