Heh, it's one of my favorite commercials, just because it's so weird.
They actually have those M&Ms interviewing celebs on Entertainment Tonight!
*oops* did I just confess to watching ET?! Oh well...

What about Tommy Tune for Lurch?
I think Wednesday has potential for a hilarious song...
And Julia is one of the best performers I saw in New York last week and I saw Audra, Kristin, Christine, Raul, etc...
YANKEE!!! I don't know if you're kidding or not, but you are so right that Remy is perfect for Wednesday. That girl could totally pull off creepy. And she already does kinda remind me of Wednesday.

Remy would be a great Wednesday. Not so sure about Shuler for Lurch. I think that after YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, he will want to stay away from the large monster type characters. lol.
I can't tell if you're kidding or not, but Tommy Tune couldn't play Lurch. He's too.....light on his feet? I don't know exactly how to say it. Also, his voice could never go that low
Gomez - Tim Curry (if he lost some weight?) or Raul Esparza
Morticia - Idina Menzel (I can't think of anyone else)
Uncle Fester - Roger Bart
Grandmama - Carol Burnett (Broadway return?....anybody?)
Lurch - Jonathan Freeman (Maybe?)
Wednesday - Remy Zaken
Pugsley - ???
I really wish Marc were doing the music though.
I love how I was TOTALLY kidding about the Idina Menzel casting in my post, yet people seem to be running with it. Oy! I've re-created a monster. If we are going the Wicked route I can see Eden Espinosa as Morticia before Idina.
I think Michael Cerveris should be Fester.
I really love the idea of this show. I think it's exciting! The series was genius, the characters always felt musical anyway. This ecites me, and Lippa is PERFECT for it. (outside of Shaiman of course)

OK. So when do we get "The Munsters" musical? NBC Universal (which owns the show) could start off with another horrible reality casting show and then open on Broadway.

There's a Munsters movie in the works...
I always liked The Munsters more than The Addams Family.
Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker?
I think this could actually work really well. I mean which would you guys rather see: The Mask the musical or The Addams Family the Musical...???
I can only see Nathan Lane playing Gomez

"The Mask the musical or The Addams Family the Musical...?"
A musical based on John Arcudi and Doug Mankhe's original book The Mask would be one of the most crazyawesome things ever. It's similar to the movie, except that The Mask is called Big Head, Stanley has a girlfriend, and rather than a rambunctious Lothario, the mask turns him into a psychotic serial killer.
I'm down with Raul Esparza as Gomez and would rather see Julia Murney than Idina Menzel as Morticia. Roger Bart for Fester but Carol Burnett is too tall for Grandmama, Andrea Martin was a good choice there. I'd suggest Alex Rutherford for Pugsley since he'd be the right age at that point. Don't forget Joel Grey as Cousin It. I wonder if they will have Thing sign a song?
I think Bebe Neuwirth would be a perfect Morticia. And it would be great to finally see her create a role in a new musical.
Hmmm... Seeing some of these casting ideas... I guess it could be good... Maybe I'll end up seeing it after all.

Smaxie - Bebe Neuwirth would be perfect! I don't know why I didn't think of that. lol.

"I wonder if they will have Thing sign a song?"
Maybe something ala "The King and the Minstrel and I" from Once Upon A Mattress. (or OUAM, hehe)
I was wondering if anyone would get the non-verbal pun
i'd love to see it with smaller adults playing the kids (like remy) rather than real kids, then it has the potential to have more breadth, more like the "kids" in hairspray.
i was gonna suggest cerveris for fester - an obvious choice, methinks, but a good one - i've not seen him do real comedy tho (has anyone?)
I read that it will not be patterned after the TV show but will be based on the cartoons
Whatever that means, go with the TV show as that is how most people are familiar with it. I crack up thinking of Sondheim doing the score
