re: Oh lord... outside the Nederlander right now...

So people are in the theater with people who've spent a TON to see Rent with the original cast and THEY ARE USING THEIR CELL PHONES!??!?!?!? Doesn't this strike anyone else as kinda repulsive?

Sorry you're friends wanna hear it, but come on... don't make everyone watch you fool around with your phone while bathed in an electronic glow from the display....

"I almost thought about getting a $500 ticket, but I'd rather see many shows 20-25 times than see Rent once."

I thought about that too, but right now it's not consoling me too much! The lotto was like way too much for me to handle. I was anticipating craziness but I was not fully appreciating the magnitude. If you go back a couple of pages in this thread, I naively thought if the lotto didn't work out for me I would casually saunter up to the bo and purchase rear mez seats if the mood struck me.

HA, HA, HA on me!

Can we confirm that Emcee is there?

um, i did not ask my friends to call. i actually wasn't expecting a call until the show was over. it was purely their own doing, and they just made me very happy.

Lucky you BEKA, sounds like they had fun! Wow, what I wouldn't do to be there. I actually drove my mom crazy after we lost, because suddenly my obsessed fan-ness came out. I brought up paying for the 500 buck tickets, but she started getting mad at me, so I shut up. Guess I deserved it though. Those prices are insane, but hey, good cause. If anyone's back yet, give a review! I'm freaking out here!

Edit: Did Emcee win the lottery, or did she just buy a ticket afterwards?

I heard Emcee got in somehow, not through lottery and she didn't have a ticket as of yesterday, so...
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I just saw my name mentioned upthread.

Nope, I didn't win. Unfortunately, I didn't even get there today.

I got a call at 8:30 this morning from my boss, begging me to come in today and cover for someone. I had a silent moral dilemma (do I go in for all OT and make a dent in my credit card bill or do I refuse to come in so I can take a slim chance at a Rent lottery?), but realized that work was the better option of the two- no matter how much it sucked.

I just spoke to a friend who went into the party a few minutes ago. It was really hard to hear, but

"It was hot"
"Idina mooned Taye and he slapped her ass"

SOmething along those lines.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

I think Katt is there, too.
