Any news on Oliver! casting for "Encores!"? ... Alan Cumming, in the above video, says he's been offered Fagin in a production this year (next year?). Does that mean the Encores! production? Any rumors on Nancy casting? Also, the City Center production listing states it's being presented in association with Cameron Mackintosh, who I believe holds the rights at the moment (?) - Will we get the revised 1994/2009 orchestrations/book or are we getting the original score/book?
Alan Cumming - Interesting! There’s also a rumored West End revival coming, I think.

If it actually is Alan Cumming for Fagin (which would be brilliant casting), dare we also dream for Audra as Nancy?

25 years ago, yes!
There are an endless number of more age-appropriate women who could play that role well, depending on what direction Lear wants to go in. Solea P? Eva Noblezada? Jasmine Cephas Jones? Julie Benko? Jessica Vosk? Talia Suskauer? Shereen Pimentel? The list goes on and on and on...

A West End message board had some discussions on the fact that the rights were pulled originally for 2023/24 but now they are available for 2024 - leading people to believe a rumored UK/West End production has been postponed...

The revised orchestrations and book are now the only version available from MTI (of which Cam Mack is a majority shareholder, and which sucked up a bunch of titles -- Oliver! and the Lerner & Loewe catalog included -- from Tams-Witmark before it became part of Concord), so I would assume we're not seeing the original.
I hope Encores can use the original orchestrations. The revised orchestrations use truncated versions of some of the songs.
Theatre is unique for it's embrace of older women but really if we never give the younger generation a chance they'll never get anywhere. So often people suggest Kelli, Audra, Indina, Cheno, etc for roles written as like 24.

Does anyone know, or can put in the direction to find out for myself, what the book changes are?
I remember thinking when the rumor was NPH doing this production, it would be fun to have Lena Hall as Nancy and have them together in a show again.

Mostly additional dialogue or on stage action, alternative versions of scenes e.g. London Bridge sequence, but by and large the book is the same as the original. The '94 book included a new prologue where the audience sees Oliver's birth, but the '08/9 revival omitted this. Updated On: 1/16/23 at 03:50 AM

Lena Hall would be stunning. I have a feeling it will be a POC Nancy.
I could see Ashley Park doing it. I have no inside scoop, but they wanted to work with her for Millie and didn’t get to, it’s a short run that won’t take her away from Emily in Paris and I could see her working well with the kids like King and I.

Jessica Vosk tweeted this last night--
"Yknow what. I think it’s tome to add “As Long as He Needs Me” into the concert set. That’s all. See you soooooon."
