I haven't seen " The Bands Visit" so I am confused about why a song is titled "Omar Shariff" ? This selection must be considered the best song of the production since it was performed at the Tonys.

Did you watch the performance? Listen to the song? It's not really a mystery if you have done either.
It is one of the top songs in the show.

These threads today are giving me a headache.

Thank you for getting it, despite not having seen the show. There are plenty of cryptic musical theatre songs out there, but this is surely not one of them.

In case anyone missed it (or would like to watch it again) here's a video link:

I found the performance breathtaking and I loved the way it was televised. And to anyone who wonders why Tony Shalhoub won the Tony, pay attention to how much he conveys emotionally by simply sitting at a table, hardly speaking a word. A master class in acting.

Thank you for writing this. It’s really not that difficult to understand. I understood it when I saw a clip on the New York Times article months ago before I saw the show.
