Hi, i'm from England, and have never managed to go to New York before, this Summer I am in NY for a day, I'm seeing Rent in the afternoon but what show should I see in the evening, It's a Saturday so I hope theres plenty of options, I don't want to see any shows that are open over here i.e. Wicked, as I've probably seen it! So what shows do you have that will really make me think, WOW! I'm thinking Young Frankenstein, but I'm not sure, can anyone help?

Sunday in the Park With George if you're interested in theatre as an art. For fun, I would say Legally Blonde.

Young Frankenstein, it's so fun and funny, and the cast is amazing. Legally Blonde is another good choice, but isn't it coming to London in a few months? Also, In The Heights is absolutely FANSTASTIC. The cast, the music, the dancing, the lighting....and it's really funny. Also a good option.

This revival of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE originated in London -- you need to see something NOT going to London or that played London (duh?!).

I suggest -- XANADU, IN THE HEIGHTS or even revivals that will be talked about for years: GYPSY and SOUTH PACIFIC.

Go with a play and see "August" if it's still playing.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

I would recommend "In the Heights", once it wins some Tony Awards it will be harder to get tickets! (I have mine for August 28.)

I would say definitely Young Frankenstein... or Gypsy but only if Patti LuPone is still in it...

Gypsy or In the Heights. Both are absolutely amazing, in my opinion anyway!

musical: In the Heights
play: August
If I had friends spending only one day in the city that is what I would recommend they see.

And yes I've seen Young Frankenstein, and "wow!" is not what I thought about it. Well, not "wow!" in a good way.

XANADU without a doubt - the most exciting new musical of the year. You'll laugh and feel fantastic and inspired.

Too Bad you won't be here earlier, I would suggest CURTAINS. It was a fabulous show! I adored it so very much.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

Gypsy, especially if you've never seen it, Patti LuPone is worth the price!

One day in NYC?! re: One Day In New York, Best Show To See?

You might be able to see Curtains if you are here before the end of June.

I'd also recommend Young Frankenstein for some good old fun.

GYPSY

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Obviously I'd recommend PHANTOM because its the icon of Broadway and NYC but you said you dont want to see shows that also have a London production so I would recomend either

AUGUST:OSAGE COUNTY

or

SPRING AWAKENING

That is really hard. I love the following shows:

1. South Pacific
2. GYPSY
3. Avenue Q
4. In The Heights
5. Xanadu
6. Legally Blonde
7. Spring Awakening

All of these shows are worth seeing. If you could only see one I would see South Pacific. It blew me away. It is practically perfect. So is Gypsy if you over look the cheap sets and lamb and dog stuffed animals.(Puppet Lamb)

The casts of all these shows are perfection.
Watch out for LuPone and O'Hara.
