I should clarify that I think it's perfectly fine to judge the actual musical (score and book) when reviewing the revival, but The Wrap's review didn't seem to even give the production a chance. It felt like they went in hating it before the show began and refused to see anything very positive in it at all. It's just a very unfair review.

As she should. She's absolutely radiant and lovely and her wide-eyed innocence gives the story so much emotional impact."
See for me that was what I found jarring about her performance. She has such a wonderful voice and I think her "Wide eyed, innocence" was just a bit to forced for me. Her work in the last 30 mins of the show was much more believable and based in a truth that was more organic, I felt her stakes. I also only saw second preview so I am excited to return to the show and see how much she has grown. She is immensely talented, but her "greenness" shone through.

EW is positive (B+) but gave a rave for Kilgore's performance. "The show rests on the newcomer’s slight but stellar shoulders. The character’s sweetness and naiveté mixes with Kilgore’s killer pipes and dance moves for a dynamite performance filled with heart."

The Daily Beast is positive. Raved about the production and the cast but he didn't have very good things to say about the plot, especially the ending.

Huffington Post is mixed. Highlighted the strong design elements and strong performances by Newell and Salonga but called Kilgore's performance weak.

I think Newell has got himself a spot in the Featured Actor in a Musical category.

I was thinking the same. Him for Featured Actor, Hailey for Lead Actress, and then I think either Lea or Merle might squeeze into Featured Actress...
Ti Moune is obviously the lead of the show, but are we positive Hailey will be considered in the leading category? I only ask because LaChanze was put in Featured back in 1991 for the role.

Didn't realize that! If that's the case she'd probably end up in Featured with nothing for Lea/Merle, then, right?

Didn’t the producers petition lachanze for Featured so that she didn’t have to compete with Lea for lead? Im pretty sure that was the case. I think they will place the character in the right category this time around.
I just wanna roll around in all these rave reviews! I am so happy! I have such high hopes for this shows success.

The question is... will these positive reviews have an affect on the box office?
Would it really have been that difficult to type four short words into this thread title for all the mere mortals on here who might be wondering what the hell an ooti is?

I hope so. The show deserves it.
The Wrap is negative.

Wish I hadn’t read this as it contains spoilers including the ending. Not cool!!!
I'm surprised anyone reads The Wrap.
Does anyone have any information about when the cast recording will be out?
These are reviews that should definitely place Arden in a different, higher position as a Director in demand. And it is very early but it could also bring him a Director TONY. And all the technical aspects, set, costumes. lighting received much praise. Looks like a Winner all-around.
^ At the very least he should get a nomination. I've been waiting for him to since they screwed him over two years ago by showing Chris Fitzgerald instead of him...
