Amazing. Nothing like seeing all those performers from all those different shows up there together. 2009 is (and perhaps always will be) my favorite but this was the best opening since then. This was heavy on NPH (who was brilliant) whereas '09 let the actual shows be the star.
It was amazing; the best opening number that I can recall. The standing ovation and applause was thunderous!
And it was discussed in the "Official Tony" thread.

Great this morning at the dress rehearsal in person and great on TV as well. So much fun..and so much energy around. It was contagious.
After Eight didn't like it. That has to be the biggest surprise of the evening.

After Eight didn't like the original Showboat when he saw it either.

I agree that the music wasn't all that good, but it was spectacular and a brilliant concept.
That was an amazing opening number, loved it.
Frankly I didn't find Neil Patrick Harris' bestiality jokes with Sandy to be funny in the least. Come on, Neil, that ain't Broadway.
Best opening number ever on the Tonys.
Call me crazy but I prefer my Tony Opening numbers NOT to have a convicted rapist in them. But that's just me!
Loved it. As Besty said: best Tonys opening number I have ever seen.

I know there's a whole "code of magic" thing that normally surrounds these things, but how did NPH get from onstage to the back of the auditorium so quickly?
I enjoyed seeing how some of the Tony Awards Bingo elements were included, especially the "Someone spins Tony Award" element as the finale.

Agreed that it was the most cleverly designed and executed opening number I've ever seen on the Tonys. No more of that precious "Look at us, we're so gay" stuff that just doesn't seem so funny anymore. It celebrated the importance of the theater in a grand, opulent way. Well done, all.
Thank you yankeefan. Time was when Broadway didn't go in for that sort of thing.
I've watched it again a couple of times. Still think it's the best one ever.

He sprinted down the aisle! I watched him do it twice in the rehearsal. The man is fabulous.

NPH was great and the number did show off Broadway well. The gratuitous slap at Les Miserables totally unnecessary considering most of the actors were stage performers and most of the people in the audience would have sold their souls to be in the film. Then there is the small matter that it takes talent to be able to to do 20 takes in a row of the same song live compared to singing it once a night.
BRILLIANT!...NPH is a gift from the gay broadway gods!...
