Orch vs Mezz

Hi Everyone!

From articles and pictures the theatre seems pretty intimate. I'm curious of your opinions on choosing between Orch Row B Center (3rd row) and Mezz Row A Center? I typically go for Orch but View From My Seat makes it seem like Row B is too close.

Edit: This is for Company at the Bernard B Jacobs Theatre

Thanks for your insight!

So while it may depend on the show you’re seeing…on Wednesday I saw Company and was moved to row A of the mezzanine. It was incredible. If I could afford it, that’s where I would always want to sit! HA. Anyway I definitely recommend front mezz!

Awesome, thanks for this! I'm leaning toward Mezz as well, but wondering if anyone has sat very close and regretted the possibly awkward sightlines.

I saw third row for Company and it was perfect, I would not go any closer since there is so much to see. Also, I only sit front row Mezz when Im up there which also has a  great view in regards to that theater. Enjoy!

It varies from theater to theater, so let us know what show, and everyone has different taste.  My favorite spot in any theater, however is the front 2 rows of the mezzanine, the closer to center the better.

^The OP is asking about Company; they tagged it with that new BWW “Topic” feature that nobody uses, and just causes confusion.

Sorry, first post so I just added to what looks like the Company thread. I'm going to see the show in June on a Tues night!

I haven't sat in the mezzanine at Company yet, but I have sat in row B and it was fabulous. Getting to see the facial expressions up close, especially Patti and Katrina, is worth it.

I remember when I first joined here a few years ago, I asked the same question when I was interested in buying tickets for Hello Dolly. I forgot who it was, but someone gave me great advice - when seeing a show like “ Dolly” front mezzanine is best to get the full effect of the colorful costumes and parasols and stage sets when actors are dancing around on stage. When seeing a play or musical with less spectacular staging and costumes, orchestra is the better choice.

Saw Dolly twice that summer and both times scored front mezzanine. Could not have been happier. Should I get tickets for Funny Girl this summer I will most likely opt for mezzanine, and if I had a desire for MJ or Music Man, same thing. Anything else ( including Company) I’ll probably go with orchestra.

So whoever advised me five years ago - an enormous amount of gratitude to you! I’ve shared your advice countless times with friends heading to B’ way.

I just saw Company from Row B in the mezzanine last week. It was perfect.

I sat in Row B on the center aisle there last night. It’s definitely a good seat, but it is a touch too close. Personally, between the two I would recommend first row mezz. Enjoy the show!

How tall are you?  I have sat close in the orchestra, only to move to an empty seat way back because the person directly in front of me was teller than I am.  Doesn't happen a lot, but has happened enough that I tend to get a side aisle seat, i.e., seats 1 or 3, so that is never an issue.  Close center can actually be very frustrating if the person in front is taller.

I saw it from Orchestra Row B house right. I loved being up close for this particular show. The only issue was we couldn't inside the door on the left side of Bobbie's apartment and the seats were considered full view so I will definitely book the Center Orchestra next time I go.

Also, just to reference, not ALL theatres are front row mezzanine seats fabulous.  At the Gershwin Theatre where WICKED plays, they are 2.5 miles from the stage.  You are better off watching the show on the monitors in the lobby.

But that is not the case with this theatre.  I have a mental block about its name...used to be the Royale.
