I have a bunch of pictures for The Wiz saved because I thought the design was so great. I'll upload and post them.
The house should look different from everything else... the house flew in from Kansas... everything else is from Oz.
Sorry I'm too lazy to put them in order. And they don't show off the set as well as I thought they did. But at least they are production photos.
I'm so bummed this didn't come to Broadway. I know the show has problems, but I LOVE the score and this cast sang the hell out of it.
What a beautiful production.
Is there any glimmer of hope still left for a transfer?

I hope so, but it seems like everything was put into making it a "theatre-in-the-round" sort of convention, which doesn't work well on Broadway. I wish there was a house that was just a big black box that could easily transform into something like this. It looks great.
THE WIZ is coming to SF next year. I am sure it will be re-thought since none of the theaters here are in the round. This has been mentioned as the pre-Broadway tryout. So maybe by 2010 it will hit NYC.
I really wanted this production to transfer. It looked and sounded wonderful, and all the peeps in it are fierce. It was planned/ rumored for so long...
I have never been to the Circle in the Square Theatre, but could they do it there in some way? I honestly have no idea what the space looks like, but wasn't Rocky Horror done in the round when it was there? Or almost in the round?
I have heard that Spelling Bee won't be playing there that much longer. Could The Wiz take its spot?

Circle in the Square could be configured in the round, but I don't think they have any flyspace that could be used to bring large pieces like that in. I've never worked there, though, only seen shows.

The Wiz IS planned for a Broadway transfer. After it plays San Fransisco this summer that production will transfer to Broadway. The production will be slightly different from the one at La Jolla (different cast), but that will be the one tha Broadway sees.
The Wiz doesn't want Circle In The Square although there is a chance that it might end up going there. The show was originally going to be going straight to Broadway so the set was actually designed for a standard Broadway house. The thater that it was designed for is still playing strong but there is a strong possibility that without strong enough stunt casting curtains may fall for this show. It is also looking at another theatre that should free up after January, although the show playing there hasn't opened yet.

Dancap Productions in Toronto is apparently bringing the show to Toronto as part of the pre-Broadway tryout. Toronto Centre for the Arts, apparently.

whoa, imagine The Wiz at Circle and Wicked at the Gershwin. That would be a whole lot of Oz in one spot lol

That would make sense since Des is now in Toronto.

And it's supposed to be sometime in early 2009 after the JERSEY BOYS engagement at the Toronto Centre (formerly the Ford Centre).

The SF run is still only a rumor. A few cast members have first refusal rights, and they have heard nothing. Let's wait until it gets closer to the summer and we actually get something concrete.

Actually it is not a rumor at all. It was announced a while ago and it is on the OFFICIAL website for the theater.

Neddyfrank-
Several who work for that theatre have said that "Yes, it's announced, but is not confirmed." That makes it a rumor.

What the hell?
Why would the theatre announce that they are going to do a production but not "confirm" it. I think that by putting it on their website announcing that they are going to be doing the show is confirmation. It would be a rumor if there was no proof or announcement that they were going to do the show, but there is both. The show is going to happen and to say that it is not confirmed when the confirmation is on their website is absurd.

"Yes, it's announced, but is not confirmed." That makes it a rumor.-What? That doesn't make sense. If it's officially announced it can't be a rumor... it can be rescinded but... it's not a rumor.
I love how people can't just say "oops, I was wrong."

Ok, maybe "crap" was a bit too strong of a word. I just really hate the perspective of the sets and the fact that they have nothing linking to the rest of the set. Granted, it is supposed to be seem foreign as it's from Kansas rather than Oz, I just think it's visually jarring to go from every other set in the show, to cornfield set at a time in the show that doesn't necessarily need it.
Also, I don't really like any of the design features from those pics of "The Wiz", it's probably just a matter of personal taste. Although I flying in and out sets are pretty awesome, so if it does do a preview here in Toronto, I'll see it.

Ditto. It just makes that poster look like more of an idiot.
