I don't know when it's going to be released but there's also a film version with Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld due out.Much more age appropriate.

Paul Giamatti can play Hamlet because he can act. Orlando Bloom, though good and self-effacing as himself on Extras, is really just a movie star.

I clicked on this laughing, think it was an April Fool's joke, and wanting to read the responses0.o So, Romeo and Juliet is going to be on Broadway AND the new film adaptation is coming out soon. Also, aren't they a tad old??

Orlando Bloom was classically trained at Guildhall, one of the UK's top theatre programs, so I wouldn't say he's just a "movie star"
He's still far too old for this role.
And trumpeting that it's "inter-racial" seems... weird. Is that going to be a concept of the production? Like it's set in a time when that was illegal?
I'm just a little bit over Condola Rashad officially taking over the go-to minority Broadway ingenue slot now that Audra has aged out.
It just seems pointless. And this is a big theater for people to be shouting Shakespeare in. They should just throw this in the park. Who cares? Who wants to play $120 for that when they can see other stuff. I guess it'll probably be a fun summer/fall escape for people.

Well...yeah. The press release said that the Montagues will be white and the Capulets will be black. It will be set in modern times, although using the original language.
The director stated that he wanted an inter-racial production, but he did not decide on black and white until he found his two leads. No idea how much of that is spin, but he states that he considered Asian, Latino, and other races.
Why Condola? She's the African American Lily Rabe. Riding on her mother's coat tails. Condola does not impress me in the slightest.
Bettyboy, did you see her in RUINED? I had no idea who she was at the time and thought she was so heartbreaking, so powerful. Since then I think I've only seen her in SMASH (paycheck job, I won't judge her for that one) and STEEL MAGNOLIAS where she was surprisingly underwhelming and, most unforgivably, boring. I'm not sure what her performances in STICK FLY or TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL were/are like though I will say she's bored me but never actively annoyed me the way Lily Rabe does.
I didnt see her in RUINED but Ive seen her in the others and she never struck as dynamic in anyway.
