Naked Boys Singing or The Gazillion Bubble Show????

She's perfect for something like KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN and MAME would be great as well.
It's a shame she turned down the ANYTHING GOES revival, how great she would have been as Reno Sweeney!
PASSION is one of my favorite musicals and frankly the idea of her in it doesn't sound bad, I'd love to see that!

Because I am utterly utterly utterly utterly utterly sick of all the talk of revivals here, and wonder why nobody ever has any idea (or apparently, desire) for a new show, I propose that Cathy play the Rosie O'Donnell role in a musicalization of "Riding the Bus With My Sister," titled I Hate The Shortbus.

I'd like to see her as Dorthy Brock in 42nd Street. I think she'd be a good Witch in Into The Woods too!

Well, it's pretty hard to do theoretical casting for a show that doesn't exist, and if people started talking about adaptations then I'm sure somebody else would come along to complain about all the screen-to-stage adaptations we keep talking about.

Norma Desmond?
She could NEVER sing that score 8 times a week. Ever.

I think she has a better and stronger voice than Glenn Close. CZJ's voice was fine for the entire run right up until the last month with the sickness and absences.

She has a fine voice, but she does NOT have the range and she does NOT have the power or support behind her voice. I don't even think she could make it through "With One Look" once, let alone 8 times a week.
I'm not really sure why people are vastly exaggerating her vocal talents on here. She's a better actress than she is a singer, but she could never handle roles like Norma Desmond.
And The Witch? Please.

Again, Glenn Close??????
And The Witch isn't impossible to sing. Vanessa Williams sounded fine with much lower keys.

Glenn Close has a terrific voice with a LOT of power behind it, and a decent range. Catherine has neither of those things.
And The Witch isn't impossible to sing...and I'm not talking about it being high or low (much lower keys has nothing to do with my point) - she simply does not have the technique, power, breath, OR range (acting, vocal, or otherwise) to pull off The Witch.
Mame is more up her alley. APPLAUSE is more up her alley. She might even justify bringing THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG back to Broadway.

"...it's pretty hard to do theoretical casting for a show that doesn't exist..."
I agree, let's not do anything that might be difficult.
"... I'm sure somebody else would come along to complain about all the screen-to-stage adaptations we keep talking about."
OK, how about an adaptation of a book? Cathy as Nanny in the musical of Kay Thompson's Eloise.
Or an original scenario, based on CZJ's talents... "Chubby Chaser!, a new musical about a beautiful woman who can't help but fall in love with shapeless, flabby guys. But when her current amour begins to hit the gym and become a hottie, hilarity ensues!"
See, not so hard, and (to me) so much more interesting than hauling those same tired old titles out of the attic. I know there are many who could go see the same five or six shows over and over and over and over again, but throw a bone to those of us who like some new work, OK?

Nor does she nhave the vocal ability to sing the role of Rose in Gypsy 8 times a week. I know Tyne didn't, but Tyne is a much, MUCH better actress than CZJ could ever hope to be.

Really? I think her voice stinks. But hey, different strokes for different folks.
CZJ's voice sounded powerful and belty in CHICAGO, and I understand those are studio vocals. But it was known at the time that Zellweger was the one who had vocal touch-ups, etc.

Glenn Close HAD a small voice with a break wide enough to swallow Pittsburgh. And that was 15 years ago. I doubt that the voice has become better.

This where Rathnait would usually pop up and talk about Close's horrid technique.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
