Why is everyone picking Pillowman over Doubt? Having seen neither, it seems that Doubt is the one sure thing of the awards season: Serious topical subject and a Pulitzer to boot.
And Rath I have no doubt that the Tony Comittee will not "eregregiously overlook" the divine Ms Mc!

it's quite funny tthat whoever usually wins the Occ, doesnt win the Tony and whoever wins the tony, sometime doesnt even get nominated for an Occ. just look in the past years, the results speaks for itself. this is nothing we should all be worried about. Spelling Bee will get what it deserved come May 10th!

I'm really confused by all of you. Did we not have this exact same tantrum moment last year after the OCC's came out and did I not explain how completely unimportant and irrelevant these awards are? Why do you all place so much importance over a committee that has no artistic merit whatsoever? Who cares? Of course there will be serious oversights (Gattelli for Abz) and ridiculous inclusions (Gambetese). But you have to also remember as I believe I said, word for word last year, there are dentists doing the nominating a voting for these inocuous awards. BREATH people. no one cares.

Well, one reason for the discrepancy last year was that Avenue Q had been nominated the year before for Best Off-Broadway musical, making it ineligible to contend for Best Broadway Musical in 2004.

Exactly Margo, these are not what you might consider, distinguished members of a voting academy of any kind. They're exactly what they're called, "OUTER CRITCS" so if say, Joe Shmo who lives in hayseed wherever decided that as an aside to his day job, he "critiqued" for his local supermarket circular, he would be an eligible committee member. Doesn't take much, so again, let's agree to let this one GO.

Need I say more? Absolute idiots. Anyone can get this title. The Lortel awards are 1000% more prestigous and light years more viable. As are just about every other theater awards that exist. I would venture to say even a website holding a fan based award such as BWW and Broadway.com, hold far more merit in my eyes and should in yours as well as the nominees. the OCC's are nonsense.

How can CCBB be nominated for so many awards - I mean they haven't even opened let alone had their press performances yet! Have all the Outer Critics seen it already - before the critics are even invited? Does anyone know?
I am glad to see Kudisch and Maxwell nominated for breathing some life into the show, but c'mon - CHOREOGRAPHY? "Me Ol' Bamboo" should bring the house down and it's so lame.
Omissions I'm sad about: Spelling Bee for Best Musical, Lithgow, Azaria, Borle, McGovern, Applegate, Davis, Beach, Washington.
But who really cares - we'll forget all about these lame awards next week when the Drama Desk nominations come out.

The mixup was between Liza Colon-Zayas and Zilah Mendoza. The latter was the one who was really nominated. I think. Both were in Living Out.

Well, if you don't see a show because it hasn't opened yet, it's okay to nominate it because you just know it'll be that good. But if you don't see it because it's already closed, well, sucks to be them, doesn't it?

There is a group of seven or eight nominators who are let in early to see some of the shows that have not opened yet in order for the shows to be considered for this year's awards. Productions either choose to let them in, or don't, but most do. Strangest omission was when the producers of the recent Long Day's Journey Into Night revival didn't let them in, but then the show received no nominations the following year when it was technically eligible.
