Fairly predictable, with some surprises, like most of this years awards will be. Surprised also about BEE's (1) nomination. I think it will make up for it in Drama Desk and Tony Awards.

They REALLY screwed up the nominees this year. Lets hope there are better choices at the Drama Desk and Tonys.

Question: Do they not consider Off-Broadway performances in the actor/actress categories? I am shocked that LaChanze and Rachel York did not get nominated for their wonderful work in DESSA ROSE. I mean, Jen Gambatese and Erin Dilly over those two?!

They certainly like the Piazza performers.
And, although light and fluffy, I am thrilled to see ASU and Cheyenne and Jenn Gambatese recognized.

I dont know how Spelling Bee could have been ignored. And Daniel Davis for La Cage. And Maureen McGovern for LW. And John Lithgow for DRS. And Christina Applegate for SC. And, as I said, Michael Benjamin Washington for La Cage. And...Oh Im getting a headache!

One thing Im happy about: TLITP's 12 nods!! I wanna see this show so badly!

I LOVE Joanna Gleason. However, having seen both DRS and LW, there is no way she should have been nominated over McGovern. That's just crazy.

How cool would it be if Joe Mantello won the Tony for his direction of Glengarry Glen Ross and Jack OBrien for his direction of DRS!?! If so, the directing winners would be:

The problem with the Outer Circle, as well as the Drama Desk (though the Drama Desk has six slots instead of five) , is that they have to cram all of the eligible Broadway AND Off-Broadway actors into just five slots per acting category, so every year there are tons of notable omissions. This is why you can't really use either to predict how the Tonys will go.
Some omissions (not all are surprising):

-- The Rivals
-- Steel Magnolias
-- Thom Pain
-- Orson's Shadow
-- A Number
-- The entire cast of Gem of the Ocean
-- The entire cast of La Cage

-- Bill Irwin
-- Adam Arkin
-- Christina Applegate
-- Liev Schreiber
-- Jessica Lange
-- Denzel Washington
