Eligibility for Nominations?

The OCC means about as much as a school bulletin board listing off names. They have no prestige, no respect and no sense of theatre. The nominees in the past, present, and I don't hesitate to say future, all reflect this.

Look at the name "Outer Circle" there is a reason these people do not belong to any "Inner Circle" it is their complete theatrical impotence that resigns them to a fate designated to the forgotten ranks of community theatre and productions of Oklahoma.

Then why does the Broadway media pay so much attention?

#104

Eligibility for Nominations?

Because there are so very few events of mention for theatre that they make a great big deal out of everything.

Eligibility for Nominations?

Well, you can be sure that all of these "meaningless" nominations will be in the ads of all of the shows in tomorrow's Times, as will each and every win in a few weeks.

Which is basically like the film version of Pearl Harbor saying "On over a dozen Top Ten Lists" regardless of what it means. It looks good to have the words "Nominated" "Critics" "Award" in an advertisement.

Eligibility for Nominations?

Which is why they'll be around forever, hailed as a terrific honor by those who get them, and dismissed as completely irrelevant by those who don't.

Eligibility for Nominations?

Exactly. But I think we can all agree that shows don't close when they don't win an OCCA

Eligibility for Nominations?

True and I'm not sure how many extra tickets are sold by shows that sweep the OCCA.

But somehow the OCC feels a sense of purpose...

I think Spamalot of probably one of those really over-rated musicals with lots of hype like The Producers was. I hope they don't sweep the TONYS this year, that'd suck.

All I want to comment on is the fact that Jan Maxwell better win because she shines every ****ing performance in Chitty.
#114

Eligibility for Nominations?

Yes, do you think the car could be nominated for the 5th slot of Best Actress? Eligibility for Nominations?

Eligibility for Nominations?

Do you know Reuben Raith or are you just trying to be difficult as usual and flip flop in the same thread like you always do? I'm in total agreement with SUM. They're completely inane and I'm quite sure than any seasoned nominee and/or overlooked person knows what nonsense this particular award is. The ones who want to think it's worth something should look at the "stellar" careers of most Tony winners and yes, I meant Tony winners.

To answer Theatreboy33's question from the first page, Counselor at Law was off-Broadway, a revival of an Elmer Rice play from the 1930s about a successful lawyer who has his ethics questioned as well as his ideals.

It had a very large cast, and (particularly during the first act) I felt like I was watching an old movie, with a lot of rapid-fire dialogue and bustling about. Lots of good performances, too...I can't remember the name of the woman who played the secretary off the top of my head, but I would have liked to see her get a nomination.

Eligibility for Nominations?

I find it funny that people say that shows Like Brooklyn were robbed. That show is really not award worthy. Whether you like it or not, it's not worth any award. I feel the same way about John Lithgow. I saw DRS and sure he was good, but he was the same as he was in Third Rock. It was hard to see a character there rather than John Lithgow having fun. I don't think it was award worthy at all. I can't comment on the Christina thing because I haven't seen her, but I find it very hard to believe judging from what I've heard, that she will beat out the other great performers out there.
#124

Eligibility for Nominations?

Judging from what you've heard? Only nice things have been said on this board - especially by myself, who usually rips people apart. She wasn't nominated because she wasn't eligible. And as far as the Tony's go, she has an EXCELLENT chance at winning.

Eligibility for Nominations?

Chitty, the car - why not Eligibility for Nominations?

*She has a name - CHITTY
*She is beautiful to behold - such stage presence!
*She has an international pedigree - allowed by Actors Equity to reprise her role in London, plus she was a former motor-racing champ ( better than Ferrari Eligibility for Nominations?)
*She can sing ( er..make noises) - like "bang, bang"
*She can act ( she can be temperamental - you have to say "please" to her...or she can be heroic - she saved the day for everyone)
*She can dance ( er...wiggle a lot before attempting to be airborne)
*She can do awesome stunts ( fly like Mary Poppins and the Three Witches)

*Most of all - she's bringing in all the children and their parents' hard-earned money to the HILTON.

LOL! That must be the impact of the fantasy mist she throws on everyone who sees her and is persuaded to sing her praises ( can't get the title tune out of my mind Eligibility for Nominations?)
