the issue is not the bellhops, for whom it is a source of revenue, but the management. Also as rehearsed there are a bunch of luggage storage places between Times Square/Port Authority and Penn Station, and also a couple on 8th ave in the theatre district, if the hotel thing doesn't work out. (City co-pilot is one, and the most established luggage place is Schwartz.
If anyone was curious, I decided to see Waitress on Friday with a pretty decent size duffel. Called the Brooks, and apparently they don't even have a coat check so you are SOL with anything you need to check.... current plan is to just put some stuff in my smaller work bag and hope for the best!
I once travelled with a commuter backpack (28L) and a duffel bag (we’d been travelling through other states beforehand). We didn’t have time to take the bags to a luggage storage place, so we went to the theatre (Music Box) with all of our bags. Security had an interesting time trying to go through our bags but they didn’t give us too much hassle (might’ve been because I was a student/looked young enough). I fit the duffel under my seat pretty easily (I think it was sticking out a bit), but I fit the backpack between my legs, so it wasn’t too bad – just a bit of a tight squeeze to make sure anything wasn’t intruding other people’s spaces.
The next time, I travelled with a rolling carry-on and brought it to Schwartz before the show. Best 10 dollars I ever spent, especially because it was raining really hard that day. I still brought the same backpack – didn’t have any issues except for needing to take a bunch of stuff out for security to look through.
So I think you should be fine even if the bag doesn’t completely fit under your seat – as long as it fits between your legs/feet, you shouldn’t have any issues.
Try calling a bar/restaurant near the Atkinson too. Maybe somewhere like Glass House Tavern has a coat check and would hold it for you during the show. Or a hotel on that block. Never hurts to take the 2 minutes to call for peace of mind.
There was a theatre that shall remain nameless, where a patron brought a brief case with top secret government documents and did not check them. The brief case vanished and it became a huge scandal where the patron was trying to sue the theatre.
They had to shut those lockers down at the Beaumont due to security concerns. Lincoln Center (all of the buildings combined )is actually number 10 as far as areas in NCY that are high risk terrorist areas. Security has been beefed up considerably over the last few years. Wi
