I appreciate that he mentions how Samantha Barks is recreating Julia Roberts' performance. Perhaps it was a directorial choice. But it made me wonder why I came to see the show, if I was just going to see the same performance. Hopefully she grows into the show. She really is a big talent.
"Pretty Woman was one of the first that didn't require her to die at the end."
Oh, now that's not remotely true - Nights of Cabiria, Never On Sunday, Irma La Douce, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Klute, Belle du Jour, Rain - there are countless narratives predating Pretty Woman in which the "good hooker" doesn't die. Pretty Woman broke no barriers, it's an uber-conventional romantic comedy.

I don't understand the comparisons.. There are some lines where she says it like Julia to pay homage to her, but so many of the iconic lines she has put her own, spunky twist on the lines and is not imitating her. She found her own in my opinion.
I still can’t believe there isn’t 1 woman on the creative team.
The Wrap is mixed.. but can't really count them since they can't spell the lead's name correctly.

It will be interesting to see the quotes they pull from these reviews. I envision a lot of ellipses.

I imagine they will pull the quotes that highlight the cast primarily. Samantha Barks had a lot of rave reviews in Chicago they can use.
I at first thought this would close very quickly, but now I'm pretty sure this show will be critic-proof. It won't run for years and years, but so many people love the movie and kind of want to see a recreation onstage. Kind of low-hanging fruit.
While there isn’t a single woman on the creative team. I think it should be noted the lead producer is Paula Wagner, who is a woman.
I’m really interested to see if there will be any mention of Allison Blackwell, who I thought was the surprise star of the night.

Why does that matter ...it just didn't work out that way for this show and would it have made a difference?
Yes, Paula Wagner is the top producer along with the associate producer and make up designer are!
Time Out NY is pretty negative.

On a show like Pretty Women and in 2018? It matters.
Who is Allison Blackwell? The woman who sings the pointless song in the bar?
And it is NEGATIVE from Brantley. Not impressed by Barks or Karl, but points out that Allison Blackwell was the biggest crowd pleaser.

NYT lists: "Closing Date: Feb. 6, 2019"
Is that correct?

The Guardian gives it one star (out of 5) and calls it a tasteless disaster.

No, that's not. It's an open run.

She’s the opera singer.
Oh, right - the Verdi medley with a disco beat. Strong voice.

God, only a clueless man would EVER say that. It. Matters.
Wow. The Stage gives it 4 stars and calls it “peppy with winning performances:

It'll all depend on competition (which she doesn't have much of as of now), but I'd say so.
