It's close. A few MINOR differences, but it was always ALW's intention to bring back the Steven Pimlott/London Palladium version.
But I HATE the new Narrator costumes! They should have kept them the same as the original revival design like everything else, IMHO.

Also as someone who was in the childrens choir of the Pimlott version I have to say that yes, the sets are the same basic design. A few rounded angles in the Potiphar set but other than that it looks the same. Pharoah's costume has been SLIGHTLY tweaked, and the Narrator has a new look. All other costumes are intact.
Also, while not on the recordings, the reprise of Close Every Door WAS in the original Pimlott show, to give the cast time to get into their Megamix gear after Give Me My Colored Coat.

If there was a show I didn't like and did not want to see, but then I found out one of my favorite actors was going to be in it I would want to then go and see it anyway.
But the point is that Lee Mead isn't anybody's favorite actor. He is a complete unknown.

I don't think he is unknown in the UK, google him.

Have you people never seen a shirtless guy before?
Actually, I got sexually harassed at work the other day. I was wandering past one of the registers when this incredibly sweet girl I work with handed me a book of male nudes and insisted I look through it.
Okay, maybe I enjoyed it too much for it to be harassment...

Posted: 7/18/07 at 2:09pmI expect to see this close soon once people realize they can rent the Joseph movie and see the exact same production.

Posted: 7/18/07 at 3:12pmWHY WHY WHY won't someone do an original version of Joseph? There are so many different possibilities! I can't stand the stupid design of the video.

For those interested, heatworld has video of Lee performing close every door. Shame the Brits haven't discovered the wonder of flesh-colored mics...

hey hey hey stop with the abuse about the Brits! :P
Anyway.... I will watch this production when I get back to the UK after the Summer BUT I really hope there's still the magic that I felt when I saw it in HK with Linzi Hateley!
Has anyone seen the 'Any Dream Will Do' video on the offical site? I have to say... with all the hype of him descending down.... the 'I' wasn't the best starter!... in fact it sucked ~

ruthiefan, i love my brits, trust me! i was just suprised to see such a prominent mic, took me back to the sunset blvd days...
I noticed that first "I" too. It was awkward, but who knew when they filmed it. Bravo to them for leaving it in, because when he kicks in, he sounds pretty good.

Muscle- Are you familiar with how he was cast in Joseph? He was cast the EXACT same way that Connie Fisher was in The Sound of Music and Laura Osnes and Max Crumm were in GREASE- via reality TV show. The point of these shows are to cast a complete unknown. That would make Lee Mead a complete Unknown.

Erm, if he was on a reality show, watched by 7 millions brits on a Saturday night, with countless interviews and articles in newspapers and magazines, he is hardly an unknown. The idea is to cast an unknown, who, ironically, will become a huge west end draw. The show has played 13 performances, and it's advance is £10 million - that is almost unheard of in the west end. Two of the best selling shows in the west end are The Sound Of Music and Joseph, both cast by the tv shows. People are flocking to it not to see the show, but to see the people's choice. Thus, Lee Mead is definitely, no longer, an "unknown". Just because he hasn't necessarily earned his fame in a traditional theatrical way, doesn't mean he doesn't have it.
And the reason why this production has been revived is that it is, quite frankly, the only production of Joseph worth seeing. The stuff we've seen in the west end and on tour around England is just embarrassing, so it's excellent to see a fun, light-hearted, camp production, with a good cast, a set that looks like some thought and money went into it, and some decent orchestrations. I've already seen it twice and am going again tonight.
With a good deal of love,
Mary P x

I have to say Lee Mead is a much better choice for a winner than Connir Fisher... Im watching Aiofe as Maria if I'm watching SoM but I would happily walk in and see Lee Mead (though I might wanna see the narrator alternate).
As Zoe Tyler said herself, Maria is a much harder role (vocal & acting wise) than Joseph and if Connie & Lee swapped roles... and their sex... it'd be perfect haha not that I'm supporting TV reality show musicals or anything!
*completely off-topic, but wow... it's been 16 yrs since the palladium production opened and god I wanna see Linzi as Donna in mamma mia!*

Posted: 7/19/07 at 11:50pmPractically Perfect- The point that I was making (if you read my earlier posts) is that he hasn't done any stage work on the West End show because he is/was a complete unknown and therefore he can't be anybody's favorite actor.

He was cast in "Joseph" not "Grease!", and maybe he was unknown before the show, but we are talking about him right now, and he is obviously famous in the UK. I guess that going by your terms, Kelly Clarkson is an unknown as well.

Oh wow....now we're judging good/bad theater and the basis of going to see the show on the size of the leading man's pecs?
How. . . shallow.
