I feel raped on behalf of both of those movies.

This show might have gone in trying to be like 9 to 5, but now it may switch and try and be more like Mamma Mia.
Sadly, I think it will have a hard time finding an audience. I'll wait for more reviews though.

John Dossett...in leather.
For that, I'll pay full price.
Otherwise, meh.
Adamgreer, i thought the same thing when I saw those photos.
Am I the only person who is excited for this (what is bound to be a) mess of a show?
It looks like it'll be campy fun, if nothing else. We'll see.

To be fair, you're also the person who thinks 9 to 5 works better on stage.
K, thanks.
I heart uncalled for snarkiness.

I'm not being snarky. I'm just putting your comments in context.
It looks like the actors costumed themselves.
And could Barbara Walsh look more bored in these pictures?
Barbara looks a tad bored, but also very beautiful. She looks like she dropped ten years since COMPANY.

I know its hard to judge fully from pictures, but this looks like another bang-up staging job by Francesca Zambello.
That cast is not going to bring anyone in the theatre. This musical is resting solely on the name recognition of the film, so I hope it is good. It's a third rate cast full of supporting actors in leading roles.
Is anybody else puzzled by the choice of Francesca Zambello as the director for this show? Her musical theatre record has been disastrous --- the cheesy Rebecca, the charmless Showboat, the interminably boring Napoleon, the leaden Little House on the Prairie and the amateurish Little Mermaid.
Zambello is thorougly grounded in opera but has no real love or understanding of musical theatre. While her record of directing opera has been uneven, she at least knows opera inside and out. She knows nothing about musical theatre.
Nothing about this show excites me. I love the film; I suppose that's the only slightly exciting part. This cast is rather upsetting- obvious talent, too little star power.
9 TO 5 has much more star power in its cast, its based on a film that I suppose is just about equal in popularity, and its got Dolly Parton attached. I just don't see how WIVES can work.

The movies are hardly equal in popularity. I'd say FWC is far more popular and known even by younger audiences. Perhaps you've forgotten that 9 to 5 came out in 1980, while the FWC was 1996 and it plays on TV all the time. I'm sure I've only seen 9 to 5 once, but if I notice FWC on TV, I'd watch.
While I was monitoring Twitter for some news of the previews, there were tons of tweets about the movie.
9 to 5 spoke to an older generation of women, who were enterting the workplace in the 1970s-80s, when discrimination was at its worse and the glass ceiling was more like concrete.
The FWC has a far broader appeal and wouldn't be considered by younger women as so irrelevant. Most younger women today, I've found, can't fathom how horrible the corporate workplace was for women in those days.
My expectations have been met! Perhaps surpassed...

I'll Show You Yours If You Show Me Mine.
The cast is such a snooooooooozefest!!! I remember rumors a while back with Bernadette Peters and Megan Mullally......those 2 alone would get me into the theater. This cast just seems so blah to me.

9 to 5, Vanities, and now The First Wives Club. These three women girl-power musicals are starting to get over used.
I agree Allthat, even if this were a good thing, it is just too much of it!
