I recieved an e-mail with discounts for the show and there was a pick of her on it.. She looks awkward in the picture and doesn't really fit in.. What does everyone else think?

re: Phylicia Rashad in A:OC

there is less contrast on her. It is an obvious cut and past photoshop job. Things like this make me sad. This is someone's career... Stuff like this is the first thing I learned to do in design school
It's the music and I'm its hapless victim

Remember when Time Magazine darkened O J's mug shot to make him look more sinister? Looks like this has been photoshopped to ameliorate this ridiculous stunt casting.

I'm still excited to see her though.

I really don't consider a well respected stage actress like Phylicia Rashad to be stunt casting, but maybe she is...give her a chance before you shoot her down.

re: Phylicia Rashad in A:OC

Why can't they photoshop others in? Or take an entire new photo?

I unknowingly purchased tickets for her first (and Amy's return) performance as a Mother's Day gift and am excited either way. I saw Estelle (which I hoped my mother had had the chance to see), but this is just as exciting especially with Amy returning.

Yeah - I got that mailer too and remember thinking that their Photoshop budget must have dropped with ticket sales.

This is the Graphic Arts version of the Home Recording Studio: since you have Photoshop on your computer, you obviously have the ability to create Art, just like Real Artists do.

So just give it to the GM's assistant -- he'll do fine. Forcing more graphic artists out of the art houses and into private consulting.

Bleah!

re: Phylicia Rashad in A:OC

I was just on the A:OC website and on the main screen is a link to Weight Watchers and Phylicia's weight loss blog...that really saddened me. Is this what happens now, A:OC cross marketed with Weight Watchers. UGH!!!!

I think they photoshopped her head onto someone else's body.

re: Phylicia Rashad in A:OC

It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that several of the other actors pictured are no longer in the show. Reminds me a bit of the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels replacement photos outside the theater (except theirs were supposed to be funny).

re: Phylicia Rashad in A:OC

I'm still baffled this casting decision. When I first heard she was coming in to the role, that it was going to be recast with a black family. Although that would completely change the story and family dynamics, at least it would be believable. Even with all genetics aside, having Violet as an African American COMPLETELY changes the character! With so much subtext on the socioeconomic background of the Westons and even the racial tensions between Johnna and the family, I just don't get it. Arg.

PS, awful photoshopping job.

re: Phylicia Rashad in A:OC

I think it is deliciously complex. I mean, having an African American woman making negative inferences about Native Americans, is just rich. It think it is ripe for interpretation and adds great nuance. The show is a patchwork of types anyway. The daughers were always a hodge podge of types (one Amazon blonde tall, one redhead, one small mousy brunette). Who actually knows who gave birth to who anyhow? The show is about strained, dysfunctional families with secrets. I think Phylicia will be a divine and delish Violet.

re: Phylicia Rashad in A:OC

I mean, it makes about as much sense as her being the mother in "Bernarda Alba," when A) She isn't spanish, and B) how could she give birth to all those women? So who cares. I'm sure she'll be great.

re: Phylicia Rashad in A:OC

What a horrible, cheap photo-shopping job that is. Jeez.

I too think they just stuck her head on top of Deanna Dunagan's body. It looks disproportionate.

You'd think they could have at least done the same thing for the other replacement cast members.

re: Phylicia Rashad in A:OC

That is some bad photo shopping.

As Far as Rashad's in the show I don't think of it as regular stunt casting. She is very well respected stage actress who just happens to be able to draw a crowd. I am more nervous about her performance. A:OC is such a complex play (having read some of it) and Violet is such a complex character. With all due respect to Rashad who I've only seen on TV, her style of acting seems to be herself playing herself as whoever. While this may not be true in A Raisin in the Sun which I've heard she is brilliant in, but in other roles it seems like a whole lot of eyebrow raising but no real performance.

Rashad is contracted through August 23rd.

Thank You. We have tickets for July 30th and we were hoping we would get to see her again. I saw her last summer in Cat... and I thought she was great.
