Being age appropriate and looking age appropriate are two different things.

Look, I already said it. I'm not a fan of Depp. I don't find him hot, ever. I'm bored by his partnership with Burton. I don't believe that -- however much singing he may or may not have done in the past -- he can't possibly suddenly be able to sing that role to my satisfaction. I think that pretty much covers it.
I know a lot of that will sound like I'm "pre-judging," but come on. Don't we all have actors we just plain don't like? It's really as simple as that.

'Don't we all have actors we just plain don't like?'
Helen Hunt...hands down.
And I don't have a problem with you being not into it. It was the look thing I was wondering about.
Yeah...I guess the look I would have preferred would be "not Depp."

Doesn't it feel good to walk in the light of truth, MYB!?
"Why does he look like Christpher Walken to me???"
I agree. I also think he looks like Edward Scissorhands. I know he WAS Edward Scissorhands, but its the hair. That is what reminds me of him.
Thanks, but I was more talking to robbiej (trying to better address his "look" question).
"Mother's Younger Brother, it's okay - we get it."
Indeed!
Um, are you guys really serious? In my first post, I tried to say it as simply and inoffensively as I could. That was followed by posts from other people commenting or asking questions about my opinion, resulting in beating the dead horse. All I did was respond to THOSE posts, in exactly the detail I was trying to avoid in the first place -- knowing that my opinion of Depp would piss people off.
This is why I hardly post on the main board anymore. No one's allowed to NOT like something.

MYB,
I guess the lesson learned is, you're going to piss off the pissy, no matter what you do. So go ahead and be offensive from the get-go.
Though I found nothing offensive about any of your posts. I guess I got me a thick skin.

A few more photos from the set ...
His skin was pale AND HE HAD SCISSORHANDS!

He looks slightly disgruntled.
I like how everyone's complaining about how "predictable"...
You people saw it coming because you know that's how it SHOULD look!
I'm so excited about this film!
I was hoping he'd have red curly hair and a lollipop.
Damn!
nice butt, Sweeney!
I wish I had mateo's Photoshop skills.
I'm not so sure if I would have chosen the skunk stripe in the hair (very Jay Leno), but maybe that's just me. Overall, I'm satisfied with look. I definetly don't understand the arguments that Depp is too young to play Sweeney.
Now let's get some pictures of Helena as Lovett!
Doodle---don't look for that lyric change:
"His skin was pale and his a$$ was great."

Okay, I have to confess... As happy as I am that we finally got to see Depp as Sweeney, what I really want to see is Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett. Now THAT's something to look for.
Once pictures of HBC go up, then I can be lambasted, because I really dislike her as an actress on a very deep and somewhat irrational level.
Eh. The picture's not great, but I agree with ligting, a set behind him etc. it will look MUCH better.
