quick question: wasn't HBC in Corpse Bride? I haven't seen the movie, but all I remember is that Johnny Depp was in it.
The problem with this movie (and other movies based on shows), is that we have a look and design of what the movie should look like in our heads that we made up, or based off of a prior staging of the show. When it doesn't match that, we get upset and weep that it isn't going to be good. I'm not going to lie . . . I have done this, but this is just ONE picture. Wait until the movie comes out to make the final judgment.
This is exactly how I pictured it. Everything about this project, from Tim Burton directing on, has been almost too perfect for my taste. I love Sweeney's look--the costume is great!
I think it looks like a mixture of Edward Scissorhands with Ichabod Crane...
AudreyTwoTwo... HBC was the voice of the corpse bride.

It might be your fantasy, but I can't imagine living on poor food and being worked to death in the penal system is the same as a working vacation with nautilus equipment. They were deported to be worked to death.

Say what you like, but totin' dat barge and liftin' dat bale doesn't make one emaciated.
I love his little "razor purse".
Well said, Spider.
Thank you, D2!
Another thing I don't understand is how people are judging his entire look based on a photo where he is not in character or even on set. He's walking past a car for crying out loud. I think people should wait for publicity photos/videos before judging his look.
Going back to the lack of presence comment from last page, I'd agree that I can't see Depp as a stage Sweeney, but I think he has the intensity for a movie version.
I'm not a big fan of his work, but he does command attention on camera.
Chicolini - you're absolutely right. If Burton can frame this properly, Depp may yet surprise me.
Thanks. I still don't like him (Depp), but done right I think he can scare the sh!t out of me in this role. His eyes are so freakin' intense!

They were deported to be worked to death.
And yet, he didn't. Wouldn't that be a testament to the fact that he'd be a rather strong man?

I love the fact that they gave him a holster for his razor, along with an attached napkin/sheet on his belt.
I showed my mom the photo, and she said it reminded her of Edward Scissorhands.
I was completely off about what the costume was going to look like cause I had the George Hearn/Len Cariou costume with the suspenders in my head, but this just looks great and it looks like something that Tim Burton might've thought up. Burton does tend to draw what he thinks the character should look like and then gives it to the costume designers. That's what he did with Batman Returns, and I'm pretty sure he does it with his other films.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... shoulda been this guy.
I love how many are complaining that he looks like "Johnny Depp in a Tim Burton film!". What were you expecting? John Goodman in a Coen Brothers film? Tom Hanks in a Stephen Spielberg film? I'm intrigued. No, really. ^_^
Come on and join us on the "don't knock it until you've tried it" wagon. Because honestly, none of us will know how it is UNTIL WE'VE SEEN IT. ^_^
At least Mr. Depp looks more like a barber than the "Image hosted by Tripod!" pic. :P
has filming resumed after Depp left because his daughter was ill?
yes we know he looks like Edward Scissorhands! its the same actor! should we give sweeney a tan and maybe people will simmer on the Edward Scissorhands tour. people seem to be going into this movie looking to pick out ever fault..all we've seen is a picture of him on set but yet we have enough complaints for a whole movie! this is just a little of whats to come.
i love it, he looks great. pale skin, eye makeup and a period appropriate costume. i couldnt be happier.
Yeah, when I saw that car in the background my first thought was , Oh My God! Did they move it to present day....then I saw the costume....Thank God.... he looks good in general, but I'm a bit worried about his singing...
Yeah, I would rather have a clip of his singing than this random shot of him in costume. That would be a better basis for judging how his portrayal will come across.

Well, I have to say that picture looks a lot better than the previous ones. I like the reddness in the eyes. Very intense it seems.
