Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

Two shows aimed at the gay demographic but not exclusively, wondering what you would say is your favourite, Priscilla or La Cage aux Folles?

N.B. it would help if you have seen both shows!

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

La Cage all the way. It's a more mature story, lovely, catchy tunes, and a real message in there about acceptance and self-respect.

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

La Cage for me too, for pretty much the same reasons exedore mentioned. Priscilla is just a bit too much fluff for me.

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

I really enjoyed both shows, but have to go with La Cage, for exedore's reasons. I had a great time at Priscilla and I would be happy to see it again, but the current production of La Cage has made it one of my favourite musicals. It's got all of Priscilla's fluffy fun (in smaller doses, admittedly) but a lot more as well.

La Cage
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

La Cage,
Priscilla is brilliant fun, but La Cage was just so moving, brilliant story, and still all the glits and glammer without going OTT!

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

well what a great response, it seems that priscilla is pink fluff and la Cage is pink substance.

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

Going against the popular opinion i would have to go with Priscilla, but it is a close call.

I would have to agree with you boybooshka
I enjoy both shows, but Priscilla beats it for me to, slightly, though I did enjoy both shows, Priscilla left me smiling from ear to ear for at last four days later!

I think both show have a lot to say about identity and acceptance....

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

Based on the current incarnations of both (my two favourite West End shows this year) I'm going to have to cast my vote for ....Priscilla(!) Not sure I can even quantify it, but it never drags for me (no pun intended re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff), I just have a blast from start to finish.

I don't see La Cage as being as 'fluffy' as Priscilla - it has a better book and it's an original score, two major plus points in its favour which mean it'll probably always hold up better. Messrs Allam & Quast are superb in La Cage, as are the Cagelles, but I personally think Priscilla has a better all-round supporting cast. Plus Tony Sheldon IS Bernadette -'nuff said! re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

Then there are the costumes, the Divas, the bus, the ping-pong balls(!) and the heart of the story which is also about unconventional families - even if it isn't as overt as in La Cage, it is still beautifully portrayed in some of the less up-tempo songs.

I'd prescribe both shows on the NHS if it were up to me!

Seen some shows in my time....

I love both! Couldn't choose between them, they may be both aimed at the gay demographic but they're very different shows.

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

Thank God! I thought I was the only one, who thought Priscilla was ****!

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

Two very different shows so I cant answer this one.
I adore both.
One like an old friend and the other like a new girl on the block.

Would see both of them again at he drop of an eyelash!

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

Which do you think is more acceptable to a G.P. audience? I'd have to say PRISCILLA. While I like the show*, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES it does tend to drip with American sentiment which at times is too much for me.

*I've not seen the current London LA CAGE.

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

I have to say, the current production of La Cage, is like a drop of fresh air, its so creative, yet so simple!

I would, however, liked to have seen the sets from The Menier, because, although they would be similar to Playhouse, surely they would be scaled down alot as the menier has a tiny stage with not much height to it, and am I right in saying, the menier has no fly tower!

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

It's a hard one.

So far have seen La Cage twice and Priscilla once and have another trip over lined up to both.

would be inclined to sway towads La Cage for the intimacy and Priscilla for the spectacle.

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

I also have to say, I took a bit of delight watching straight middle age couples leaving Priscilla when scantily clad men danced to Venus and mimicked sexual positions! When looking at both shows side by side, I wonder if there is a bit of an age gap, Priscilla is obviously shown for a young (at heart) audience for titillation and spectre, where as La Cage is obviously a bit more mature and nurturing. It will be interesting to see how Mr Barrowman changes the dynamic of this, as looking at his current promo shots, he looks like he escaped from Priscilla, or was, at least thrown from the back of a great pink bus!

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

Shame it didn't hit him as the general feeling is that he is gonna bring down this superb production.

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

Saw both recently and would go with La Cage. Priscilla is fun and trashy and the costumes are truly creative and hilarious, but it is a lightweight show (and doesn't aim to be anything else). La Cage, though, has a lot of heart, the wonderful score and at least with Quast and Allam, two very committed, honest lead performances, as well as the those rather brilliant Cagelles. Audience seemed to go equally berserk at both shows, but La Cage won out for me.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

re: Pink Fluff Vs Pink Fluff

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with that, I think it's too easy to write Priscilla off as lightweight because of the flashing lights and fancy costumes...but I believe there is also a message there, one of learning to live and accept people (the same as La Cage), for a start there is the relationship between Tick and his ex-wife/son the unrequited feelings he has for Adam, the problems which come with the age gap between Bernadette and Adam, this ends almost as mother and son, as Bernadette finally comes to accept Adam, even though we know his own mother cannot. Then there is the relationship between Bob and Bernadette...the relationship all the characters have with each town as they leave the city and head further and further in to the country, leaving their security behind...you may need to scratch a little beneath the surface of Priscilla to understand its message, but it is there. Friendship, Family and Acceptance.
