well Patina's original understudy was Stephanie Pope, so its not unheard of for the production to have a slightly older leading player

The cast surely knows who it is if the new LP is starting next Tuesday night. They would be "in tech" this week and likely have a put-in rehearsal at some point.

Perhaps it's Karen Cartwright.

Oh, look, an older Leading Player. Suddenly Ben's looking pretty damn good to me. Pippin cast changes

Ben is a little old again for this role Stephanie is not at all the same age to Ben.

The new LP is still in rehearsals, and will probably not be performing come tuesday. So either Ariana or Lara will be in her shoes until she is fully prepared,

Stephanie is 50 according to IMDB- Ben Vareen is 67.

Could it be Patina?

Patina wouldn't need any rehearsals. Simply a put-in.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

It isn't Patina. It's someone new to the production but who has a lot of experience in the ensemble of several shows.

Also, it should be noted that I saw Stephanie Pope and she was really not very good. Her dancing was her strongest suit, but it still wasn't impressive. Her vocals were a mess and her acting wasn't very powerful. She also left the production swiftly and was replaced by Gabrielle McClinton by the middle of last summer.

Sutton Foster? She's been in many shows in the ensemble. Sure, she has a show, but they can work around that, right?

Maybe Dionne Figgins? She just left Motown as an Diana Ross understudy.

Goodwin would get me back ASAP to see this show. But Goodwin is also nearing 50, not sure she could do all the trapeze stuff.

Rachelle Rak was actually in the cast during its run at A.R.T. The poster said that the LP was new to this production but if they only meant the broadway production, it could very well be her.

She was not in the cast at ART. She was in the initial workshops for the production, but left the production before it premiered.

^^true. she essentially left the workshops to do the tour of Flashdance. To which she dropped out of after 6 months.

^^She left to do the Abby Lee Dance Competition Show in there somewhere too. Can't hold getting more work and leaving a dead end tour against her- most of the principles left around the time she did, Padgett is clearly better for it, Sideshow anyone! Also, if memory serves me Rak was also rumored to have had a child on these boards at one point- I only know this because I suggested her as a Fastrada replacement and another poster commented she was with child. I still think she'd be better suited to Fastrada. Anxiously awaiting the news either way!

Rachelle was in Fosse.

Rachelle takes me as more of a Fastrada for some reason, not LP.
#146

I could see her doing wither role, she has the fierceness for both the LP and Fastrada, the dancing skills for both, and she be tough like the LP.

Amazing that this still hasn't been announced, given that surely the new LP AND the next Berthe must be in rehearsal by now. Intriguing.

I certainly don't believe so, and it doesn't matter if she's the same age as long as it opens the door for older players to perform.

Legitimate guess for the next leading player: Asmeret Ghebremichael
