When I was in the city in April, I walked by the Hilton and told my mother "That's probably going to be one of the biggest flops of the season, if not in the last few years."
I'm sad to say I was right. I didn't see it, but I am always a bit heartbroken (to an extent) for casts when a show closes, especially when its star has been so passionate about it from the beginning.

Don't feel bad for her, be happy that she'll be able to move on to better projects. She is already lined up to star in the upcoming workshop of NINE TO FIVE and was chosen by a team that included Dolly Parton herself, sounds pretty neat to me.
Either way, it's interesting to see the big ones from the 80s Andrew Lloyd Webber and Boublil & Schonberg putting on show after the other and see them flopping one after the other.

erm none
its not closing because another show is going in , its closing because its loosing money and no one is going to watch it.
re: Pirate Queen to close June 17#30
Posted: 6/5/07 at 8:04pmWhy would they do that? It's not closing because of Young Frankenstein, it's closing because it hasn't been selling enough tickets.

WOW ! THAT WAS FAST !!! It's good that I already saw it last March (or a bad thing ? )
but I'm always sad when a Broadway show closes. =(

I'm sorry you feel that way, Popular, but I paid full price to see it, and it still hurts bad.
I would never wish unemployement to anyone, and of course there is no doubt that most involved have talents and skill, but it didn't work at all this time - and it just wasn't well received, neither at the box office nor critically.
Anyone who follows the journey of a show will notice improvements, but we didn't have the opportunity, nor we should have to. The show may have gone a long way for you, but this can only be a learning experience for all involved.
And of course I'm not alone in this one, though many may step back on their disgust towards the show now that is over.

I'm honestly surprised that it's closing THIS soon. It wasn't nearly as bad as so many people are making it out to be.
I'll follow what Popular stated which is also, "Thank you" to the entire cast/creative/stage crew/orchestra etc who brought the show to life. I thoroughly enjoyed myself when I saw it and I don't care what anyone else says; but "I'll be There" is still one of the greatest songs introduced this season.
Good luck to all the cast in finding new work!!

I gotta agree with most on here. The Pirate Queen was wretched.
I've never walked out of a show in my life. Community theatre, Fringe or otherwise. Until The Pirate Queen. I was so ungodly bored, I left at intermission. With only four days in New York, I certainly wasn't going to give the show another 90 minutes of my life.
Poor Stephanie Block - she really does deserve better.

Edit: Also I am very glad they are at least releasing the cast album and sheet music (if that's what they mean by songbook).
If they pull as Lestat with the cast album I'm gonna be pisssssed.

I hope you're happy [dunt]
I hope you're happy now [dunt-duh!]
I hope you're happy you didn't go
Cuz now they're closing... my showwwwww...
Somehow this show is closing
I don't know what I'll do
Climb back on the cherry picker?
Coat myself in that green goo?
It's time for second-guessing
Too bad I made the leap
Why did I trust my instincts?
I could still play Elphie in my sleep!
I'm gonna cry
"Good-bye to Pirate Queen!"
I couldn't fly too high
in Pirate Queen ...

EXACTLY! The girl can't sit still for a moment, we'll definitely be seeing her around. If I were her I don't think I'd want anyone to feel bad for me. Her life's happiness doesn't rest on this show alone.
Oh, Namo *shakes head*

It does not seem likely that a domestic tour will be set up until they have some sense of how the show tours in Europe. It is hard to sell investors on a tour for a show that couldn't begin to recoup in its Broadway run.
I didn't see PQ but wish cast and crew the very best.

Posted: 6/5/07 at 8:31pmI love this show. I went tin thinking it wasn't going to be good based on what I have heard. But, I was very much wrong. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat wating to figure out what Grace was going to do next. It really got me hooked and I didn't think it was going to but liek all shows that have been bashed I still went in there with an open mind and came out VERY happy.
