What are the shows that can be nominated for Best Score?
Matilda
Kinky Boots
Scandalous
Chaplin
A Christmas Story
plus:
Hands on a Hardbody
Bring It On!
I'm predicting the nominees will be:
A Christmas Story
Hands on a Hardbody
Kinky Boots
Matilda
Totally forgot about Bring It On! I have almost worn out my cd, I love the score. I haven't heard the score for A Christmas Story, but I know a lot of people enjoyed it.

I've been listening to the Chaplin cast recording on Spotify... I'm actually really enjoying it..
I think it will be:
MATILDA
KINKY BOOTS
A CHRISTMAS STORY
BRING IT ON
I think MATILDA will ultimately win. It is way more creative than Lauper's score.
HANDS ON A HARDBODY has been deemed ineligible because they didn't invite Tony nominators before they closed.
That's wrong information. HANDS ON A HARDBODY is eligible.
"...and the short-lived new musical Hands on a Hardbody did run long enough for eligibility for Tony nominations."

I misread the article. No harm meant. Sorry.
Wow! I COMPLETELY missed that statement in yesterday's announcement.
What's the process for a straight play to be nominated for instrumental scoring? Do they have to petition for it or just campaign with voting members? I think there are too many new musicals this year for a straight play to get through, but there have to be a few that could be nominated right? I know Macbeth has a really pervasive original score. Totally not what they'll go for (it's all atmospheric and synth), but I would assume it's eligible.
The music for HARDBODY was really nice but those stinky lyrics must have had Adolph Green rolling in his grave.
But it was a slow year so they may get the 4th nod.
People, I read this statement from the Tony Committee yesterday "and the short-lived new musical Hands on a Hardbody did run long enough for eligibility for Tony nominations," to mean that HANDS ON A HARDBODY will not be considered for ANY Tony Award categories.
If I am correct -- and I don't see any other way to interpret -- then this is most outrageous ruling they've ever made, in my opinion. Absolutely sickening.

You're interpreting it incorrectly. Read the statement again. They DID run long enough, and they ARE eligible.
Oops! Thanks CapnHook! I can calm down now...
By that statement about Hands on a Hardbody, I think the only category it would be eligible for is Best Musical. I'm also really surprised that only Matthew James Thomas and Patina Miller got nominations for Pippin. I heard from so many people that Andrea Martin's performance was fantastic
They haven't been nominated yet, they were deemed eligible for a nomination. These will be announced on tuesday. Updated On: 4/28/13 at 11:51 AM
^ That's not exactly right either. They were always eligible for nominations. The committee decided that they will be eligible in the LEADING categories, as they are below the title.

Why would it only be eligible for Best Musical? It's eligible for every award that any other eligible musical could get.
There have to be a certain number of performances made a available to Tony nominators to be eligible -- and that can include preview performances as long as the producers allowed nominators to consider it during that time. (In other words, they have to be invited to view during previews.)

I'm hoping the most deserving scores, IMO, get nominated, and those would be...
MATILDA
KINKY BOOTS
A CHRISTMAS STORY
BRING IT ON
