I’m frankly surprised anyone is still predicting Renée Fleming getting nominated. All accounts of her performance were that she sang beautifully and didn’t do much else. I’m a crowded category like this one, that won’t be enough. Plus Lindsay Mendez pretty much owns the CAROUSEL vote.
As for MEAN GIRLS, I could see Park, Rockwell, and Weed all getting nominated, while the other two noms could go to Lindsay Mendez and Lea Salonga/Kenita Miller/Diana Rigg.

There will only be four nominees for Leading Actor. With less than seven eligible candidates, they’re only obligated to nominate four.

Kad: You really know your stuff, but I'm curious about your prediction of Annis and Findlay in ''The Children'' for Leading Actress. They're both billed below the title in the Playbill, and I can't find a Tony eligibility ruling that bumps them up to Leading. Do you know if MTC petitioned for them, and was it granted?
I also ask because yesterday, the Tony rulings seemed to make it clear that if there were 9 contenders in a category, they could be 5 nominees. So far, I only count 8 in Best Actress in a Play: Garofalo, Jackson, McGovern, Rashad, Ridloff, Schumer, Taylor, Thurman. If Annis and Findlay were OK'd, that makes 10.
I believe all three actors from The Children are featured. I think they could have made an argument for Annis being leading, but it seems that didn't happen. In another year I think all 3 of them could have easily picked up nominations, but between Angels, Potter, and Three Tall Women, I think the category might be too crowded for them to get in, which is a shame.

JBroadway, so will there will only be 4 nominees for Best Actress, since they didn't make the requisite 9 candidates?

I think so! Although I'm hesitant to say "yes" because I feel like I keep making incorrect statements about the number of candidates in each category, because I forget about one show or another.

Olivia Wilde - 1984
Amy Schumer - Meteor Shower
Uma Thurman - The Parisian Woman
Lauren Riddloff - Children of a Lesser God
Condola Rashad - Saint Joan
Glenda Jackson - Three Tall Women
Janeane Garafalo - Marvin's Room
Lili Taylor - Marvin's Room
Elizabeth McGovern - Time and Conways
There's exactly 9 contenders, so 5 nominees? I don't know, but I believe Wilde is lead.
No one was above the title in 1984, and it seems only Sturridge was bumped up to lead. So Olivia Wilde will be in featured. So that would make it 8 candidates, and only 4 nominees.

Well, I assume it's anyone's game for that final slot. I'm torn between Schumer and Taylor.
Here's mine. As always, it's the featured actor/actress categories that are the hardest to predict. I'm expecting at least one out-of-left-field surprise. Like, watch someone like Jai'len Christine Li Josey pop up unexpectedly. (I don't think I'd argue with that!)

^I agree with your predictions. I'd love a sixth nominee for Featured actor. I'd love to see John Cariani sneak in there. I also hope to see Kenita R. Miller win. It would such a thrilling surprise.
I have to say though, Tony Shalhoub gave the most memorable lead actor performance of the year for me. Even though his singing is minimal, his acting is phenomenal and his chemistry with Katrina is brilliant. Actually, I would give Tony, Katrina, and John Tonys for the work in The Band's Visit with fearured actress going to Kenita. All three give truly beautiful, heartfelt performances without any of the typical musical theater glitz and glamour.

I wonder if MTC petitioned Findlay or Annis for Leading Actress, and got shot down. As we can see, the Tonys ruled that Tom Sturridge eligible for Leading Actor, but is it possible that ''1984'' also petitioned Olivia Wilde, but that got rejected? We usually only hear about the rulings they granted, not the ones they nixed.

I really don't believe Diana Rigg deserves to be or will be nominated. If she is nominated, I'd have a hard time believing it was for more than just her name. I'd much rather have the three "Mean Girls" ladies snag nominations. Park, Rockwell, and Weed are all much more deserving.
No way Rigg (or even Salong or Fleming) will be snubbed over 3 Mean Girls unless the nominating committee is filled with teenagers. One mean girl will be enough.
Yeah, no, that's not what I was saying. Rigg, though a legend, is not giving a Tony worthy performance. Just my opinion. I also don't think Fleming is giving us anything new with her Nettie. I'd be shocked to see Rigg nominated, though I expect Fleming to be. But I'd much rather see Ashley Park and Barrett Wilbert Weed nominated over two women being nominated solely on their name alone. Again, my opinion, but if Fleming and Rigg were just starting out, their performances wouldn't even be mentioned for possible Tony love.

I believe the three Mean Girls' actresses are ahead of Rigg, Fleming and, even, Miller.
I don't know how Renee Fleming was early in previews, but she was a joy to watch when I saw her earlier this month. She just lights up the stage and is one of the few good things about the production. I really would love to see her land a nom. Rigg is a legend, but I didn't feel like she did anything other than deliver about 5 lines and werk some stunning costumes. I still hope and think she'll probably get nominated.
My noms for Featured Actress would be:
Kenita R Miller- Once on this Island
Lindsay Mendez- Carousel
Kate Rockwell- Mean Girls
Renee Fleming- Carousel
Diana Rigg- My Fair Lady
I also think Ashley Park could replace Rockwell.
I do think all three Plastics will get nominations (and while I think Louderman and Rockwell are the only two who really deserve them, Park has been getting a lot of love from other nominating committees this season already).
However, I'll eat my hat if Barrett Weed gets a Tony nomination on Tuesday.
I don't think Barrett will be nominated either, but I do wish she would be. It seems as though they were pushing her above everyone else for a nomination, and for awhile it looked as though she'd be joining Rockwell, but Ashley Park has been nominated for every single award under the sun at this point.
I agree, all three of the Plastics will probably be nominated.
The Mean Girls really are not THAT good. They're just playing bitchy teens in a flat, nasal voice. They're funny and all, but you really don't need to nominate all of them. It's not like they're all giving complex, virtuosic performances. Choose the standout of the featured actresses (either Rockwell or Park) and nominate Grey Hanson and Louderman.
Agreed, GeorgeandDot. In a more regularly competitive season, I don't think any of the Mean Girls performers wouldn't even be in the running for a nomination. They are not certainly "Tony-worthy" performances (though I do stand by my opinion that Kate Rockwell's Karen is comedic gold and was the best part of the show). It's just a really sparse season.
I agree, which is why I'm pushing people like Rigg and Fleming as somewhat of a lifetime achievement nomination like Mary Beth Peil last year. I'd rather see them nominated over Weed or Park (I adore), who I feel are giving fine, but not Tony worthy performances.
