I passed the theatre the other day and the scenery dock doors were open showing the bus in all its magnificance on stage.

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

I was smokin with Felicity
The good life begins in bed
Richard was in the garden
Or I think that's what she said
Then in walks Skippy
The bush kangaroo
Rolf playing "Sad Eyes"
And playing the didgeridoo

And anybody who remembers when that song was new...gets a lot of cool points from me.

Phantom - are you serious?! Saying it "might be the best thing to come out of Australia since Fosters" is an insult. Fosters is not available in many Aussie pubs/bottle shops and nearly no one drinks it. Its purely made for an international market - very unlike Priscilla!!

Mama, if you for any reason suddenly can't make it to the opening, I'll gladly take your ticket :) =P

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

They drink Fosters down under, saw it on Crocodile Dundee with Paul Hogan, really I don't give a Castlemaine Xx.

To my horror I discovered Priscilla is a jukebox musical, on a flyer today, however reading the song list still makes me want to see this, a lot of blinding songs.

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

It is a jukebox musical, but was not born out a commercial desire to put as many hit songs into 2.5 hours of theatre. It has a very strong plot line that is pretty much sprinkled with hits for a few laughs.
Also, I'll just warn you I expect that the Palace will have a few complaints about the volume. I went in its final week at Sydney's Lyric and the orchestra was insanely loud - I never knew 6 players could make SUCH noise!!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

Its a juke box musical like NO other. Believe me.
'Mama Mia' better watch out!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

Good job its not playing the Shaftesbury then - it would be closed down within days!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

Totally agree! Get ready for the next mega hit musical - a jukebox musical with heart. One of my friend's mums was the original producer of the film, and she told me once something along the lines of how the musical's costume budget is 5 times the total budget for the original film.

Out of interest, have you seen the show yet Mama? (in Oz)

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

The theatre has neigbours that have caused problems for almost every musical that has played there.
'125th Street' closed down early because they feared the threat of legal action against the show would be too much.
African musical 'Umoja' had its drums silenced and was forced to move to two different theatres.
'Tommy' went tru hell fighting against the neighbours and held out fora year. A year or two later the London premiere of 'Rent' almost didnt happen for the same reasons.
I believe work has been done over recent years.
'Hairspray' isn't the quietest of shows but I've not heard of any problems in its 2 year run.

***Havent seen 'Priscilla' except the sneaky bits going around!!!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

If Hairspray is quiet, how loud must've the others been?

Oh and slightly on topic, yet slightly not too, why did Thoroughly Modern Millie not survive there? I thought the show was a foolproof crowd pleaser
