For those who have done it, how early/late should I be there by tonight if I want to rush? If I get there an hour/an hour and a half before curtain, will I not be able to get in? I know they go on sale when the box office opens but I was curious if they have a set number of rush seats to sell or if they just sell whatever empty seats they have for rush.

I believe they sell whatever they have available. I went to the box office around 2:30 to get tickets for their evening show, and I got a seat in the balcany - rush is $27 I believe. There were a large amount of seats available so I'm not sure you'll get some seat somewhere with no problem.
I went last Saturday evening. Got there about 3. $27 balcony tickets. Show loses a lot from so far away, to be honest.
I imagine it will get a bit harder, the new commercial just hit the internet today.
check it out
My friend just went to the box office about an hour ago to pick up tickets for this evening and the woman at the box office told her that she "only sells rush tickets at 10AM...if you're not here at 10, it's too bad." And when my friend asked if the show was sold out or if this was a new policy, the woman told her "We aren't sold out. You can buy the $40 balcony seats if you want. And no it's not a new policy. It's MY policy."
So...I'm not going tonight because the b*tch at the box office is basically withholding rush tickets from us. It's so annoying/dumb to me that there will be empty seats at the Lyceum tonight that my friend and I gladly would have payed the rush fee for...

Get her name and contact the House Manager of the Lyceum and Local 751. They don't get to set their own ticketing policies, the producers would be furious that a box office treasurer is turning away legitimate business.
sounds like she needs a LuPwning

If this is indeed the case, I would advise you to NOT let that slide. Seek out a complaint, officially.

Who was it. I'm friends with someone who works at the Lyceum box office and she's the nicest lady in the world? So I'm assuming/hoping it's wasn't her.

I would complain people cannot set policies unless they are very high up and this guy wasn't . I think a good sacking would be good here.
Even if it isn't "her policy" (but she just said so) her rudeness should not be tolerated. I would most DEFINITELY ask to talk to the house manager. I actually would have done it right then and there and waited no matter how long it took.
A box office is customer service. Plain and simple.

Seems like rudeness is not uncommon in that theater, the women who was scanning tickets upon entrance was one of the nastiest people I have come across, just plain rude.

The woman at their box office this past Wednesday at 4pm was extremely professional and nice. Couldn't have been nicer.
You really bring out the best in people, Wikedrocks!
How many times have you logged on here with complaints just like this?
In 30+ years of attending shows I have yet to encounter any box office staff who are less than helpful.
So, I have to wonder are you just making these stories up, or are you behaving in such an obnoxious way that the ticket sellers are put off and don't want to help you.
Either way it seems very odd that you run into these problems so frequently.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Wow, frontrowcentre2, rude much?
Rocks is far from the first and only person on the boards to have issues with box office staff. This is not anything unique or different. He also would have nothing to gain by "making these stories up" as you so eloquently put it.
It's just wonderful that you've never encountered a rude box office staff member, but please don't pretend like no one but Rocks ever has had a problem.
I also can't recall Rocks complaining about box office personnel before, but I could be wrong.
Having met Rocks before, I don't believe him to be the type to lie.

For what it's worth, the lady at the Lyceum box office was very nice to a friend and me last night when we asked for rush tickets. We got there at about 5:45, and she gave us two seats for $26.50 each in the front row of the balcony. She was very nice about it.

Got mine last night around 6:15 and received the same treatment.

Maybe, adamgreer, but it doesn't sound like Rocks was even there - he's telling us what his friend told him - so this is third hand information already - and many of you are taking that as gospel.
My view is much like frontrowcentre's - 30 years of theater-going and never once a bad box office experience - and I have had some doozies of problems and requests for them to contend with. I'm always puzzled when I hear these horror stories. I am particularly surprised to hear it regarding the Lyceum, whose box office staff has actually offered me, without my requesting it, an excellent discounted single seat when I showed up on a whim at the last minute, and has always otherwise been professional and polite.
I have dealt with several rude box office staff members before (there's a fellow at the Longacre who has never not been curt or condescending). However, I must say, that it's never been at the Lyceum. The last time I went, last week, I tried to rush the show fairly late in the day, and the woman was extremely sweet about it.

Um...never? Literally.
And everything else you posted honestly isn't even worth responding to.
I went an hour before my performance and got tickets with no issue. The lady was actually really, really nice and apologized that the tickets would be in the balcony, but that the view would be more than okay.

I'd guess frontrowcentre is confusing you with Winston89, Rocks, but I have to say I find it disconcerting that you're posting secondhand info as fact (you weren't there, correct?). Also, that you refer to anyone as a "b*tch" doesn't help your case.
I will never understand the sense of entitlement people have over discounted tickets.
eta: just in a rough count in this thread, you've got 8 people who have had great experiences with the Lyceum box office, and 8 who are willing to bring out the torches and pitchforks over a thirdhand anonymous report of some "bitch" at a box office from someone who thinks they should get discounted tickets just because there will be empty seats.

I got a rush ticket the morning of first preview and the box office representative couldn't have been nicer. She even said something like, "Glad that we can get you in to see the show".
