Just heard that RAGTIME audiences have been coming in strong this week. Looks like Whoopi's rave is paying off and word of mouth.
So much for closing on the 3rd of Jan

Stop ragging on Ragtime! The show is solid and audiences are blown away by the show and give it well deserved praise and standing ovations. Word of mouth is vital, so stop tearing it down and help build it UP.
So instead of just criticizing, why not put your brains to good use.
What suggestions could the Producers and PR peeps take to get the word out on the street to bring the audiences in?
If Broadway were made up of just a few shows, it would indeed be a travesty!
Keep the wheels turning! Proud Mary keep Ragtime 'burnin!
I don't think anyone here criticized the show...
Theaterfan4, didn't you just post : "Lets close this piece of crap!!! "
If that's not a criticism, I don't know what is?
Have you even seen this production?
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
The only reason we are not seeing it is we saw the original & nothing can compare to that production.
I wish it well as it is a great show.
frontrow is a wiz at noticing sarcasm...
(Just incase you didn't get it, this is sarcasm)
Sorry, but you know to read a comment without being able to detect the underlying tone is not easy.
Maybe we need a "sarcasm sign" like they sue in THE BIG BANG THEORY.

Well, that's a silly reason.
and unlike Rosie who raved about every Broadway show when she was on The View, Whoopi has only selected a few shows to rave about. The only ones I can think of are Ragtime, Memphis, Hair & Billy Elliot. Thank you Whoopi!
So happy! That is what the show needs most, great word of mouth! Now they just need to have the cast on The View or some other shows. In time it will be a hit!

Wow. I wish I had a nickel for every time this is said about every revival or even every time a replacement actor is added to a production. Nothing like a closed mind, I always say. I thought the original was nothing short of brilliant, but I'm sure willing to see a different take on it.

Whoopi raved about Memphis and Hair? Back to Rosie.
and I'll second the idea that Ragtime needs to be doing the TV rounds right now(i.e. The View, Regis & Kelly, The Today Show, etc.)

I never understand the shows that don't do any TV rounds during the first two months of running...It's so vital in today's world to hit those viewers with some form of an advertisement.
ThankstoPhantom, I'm sure they would love to do the television rounds, but I believe they would have to be invited first. Plus, the time of year also doesn't help as these segments are usually done outside (i.e., The Today Show, GMA, etc.).
And this is where Rosie O'Donnell's talk show is truly missed. She was such a champion of theatre and regularly featured Broadway shows. She was one of the reasons why I went out and saw Titanic (which ended up becoming one of my favorites).
