If anyone actually thinks that the producers will care about a stupid online petition you are seriously mistaken. They've already made the closing announcement that's the end of that. The only possible thing would be if you donated enough money to keep it running for however many years you'd like it to which I assume is a very unlikely thing to do and even then you don't know they would listen.

Look, I'm sad about this too. Rent has had a huge impact on my adolescence (sp?) and on my life. But I'll always have the memories. I'm sad to see it go but 12 years is a great run, JL probably (as someone stated earlier) never even imagined that it would last that long. If you feel bad about it closing now just think of high fidelity's run and that should calm you down a little. But seriously if you care so much about JL then actually take a moment to listen to what he had to say. Live each moment as your last, think about how great this show has been and how many lives it HAS touched and will continue to touch even if its not running. Make Rent your Angel or something but don't write a petition, it's honestly a waste of time. Accept the end and don't let it go away in vain.

(I know I'm going to get mocked for this, but I don't care. It's genuine and I think the people who really are angry about its end should take it to heart, be sad that's fine but don't waste energery being angry. that's all)

That's a tad offensive, I think. I understand that his death made the message of Rent and its success that much more bittersweet and poignant, but as Anthony Rapp said "I don't think Jonathan had to die in order for people to get the message."

You know, I thought I'd seen it all, truly seen it all when it comes to idiot Rent fans. I have to say, though, that after reading some of what's been written online since the closing notice was posted, all I can do is shake my head.

Sorry, dancegirl, but no, I won't keep my opinions to myself. I have been a fan of the show, loved it, supported it, have had several friends cast in the show, spent countless $$ and hours seeing the show in three different countries, dozens of cities, and have made amazing friends with lots of people, all related to my love of the show, for 12 long years! It makes me incredibly sad to see what has happened to the people who purport to love the show, in the past year and a half. I'm betting I'm even more sad than you are, you who just happened to join this forum all of one day ago. This whole petition thing IS disgusting, regardless of what you may think, in your sadness, of course. Good lord.

Can we make a rule that no one is allowed to say how "sad" they are until they've been at fan for at least 2 years? It's only been 2 days and I'm already about to cut a b****.

I said nothing about how long you've been a member of BWW until you used it as a pathetic defense. That petition is insulting; people have every right to criticize it- and criticize the "fans" that created it.

orange, there aren't rules as to being a fan of rent. You could have been a fan for a month and been deeply affected by it, that's a little hypocritical don't you think?

You were, at one time, a new member here. You were also a new fan of Rent once upon a time. I am very doubtful that you are old enough to have seen it 12 years ago. When exactly is the cutoff to be a real fan? You say 2 years ago, so when the movie came out? And yet lots of older fans complain that these people are not true "Rentheads". It is all stupid and immature from anybody. Orangeskittles, I have read a lot of your posts and usually find your opinions, while strongly stated, intelligent and well supported. Even if I don't agree, I can usually see where you are coming from. Not here. A fan is a fan, be it for 10 years or 10 days. And everyone has the right to say that they are sad, sign a petition, or dance naked on their rooftop in protest if that is what they desire. Will it do any good? No. But why should you care if someone elso does it?
