"without a trace has STORY OF MY LIfe as her avatar. the show that closed in 4 DAYS! if she likes that and the rest of society PANNED it then why even care about her opinion. Basic Logic."
This is truly retarded. So every long running show is good, and financial failures are, accordingly, bad? Glad you don't run things, otherwise we'd only ever get "Phantom" and "Hairspray."
"Instead of discouraging people from doing so, ROCK OF AGES will encourage people to do this in other shows...which will not be a good thing for Broadway in the long run."
Hate to disagree, but it's different for different shows. ROCK OF AGES is (debatably) enjoyable camp, and I see nothing wrong with eating/drinking if it suits the tone of the show. Fast food during SWEENEY TODD or GYPSY is another matter. But the same goes for movies -- when people go drunk to a film, they can be an annoyance, disturbance and outright pains in the asses. But for a film like GRINDHOUSE or something of the like, it goes perfectly with the ambience, and I'm sure the filmmakers themselves would welcome it. I hardly think this show's practice will lead to rampant eating during Broadway shows.

Yes, there will always be those few scattered "dregs of the earth" who will defy any and all proper theater etiquette, but instead of discouraging people from doing so, ROCK OF AGES will encourage people to do this in other shows...which will not be a good thing for Broadway in the long run.
LOL You really give Rock of Ages a lot of credit for being so highly influential. Do you also blame the original production of Hair for audiences continually climbing on stage at the end of every musical and attempting to dance with the cast over the last 40 years? Seriously, I doubt people behaving badly at South Pacific or West Side Story will have anything to do with Rock of Ages. They will just be the same sort of people behaving badly as those who have done so for the 100 years before Rock of Ages existed. But let me know how many people you see demanding beverage chips and beer service during a performance at Irena's Vow complaining that they were allowed to do so at Rock of Ages.

Posted: 3/18/09 at 11:43ammassofmen- Yes, The Most Happy Fella is much more up my alley, but my two favorite shows of the past decade have been Caroline, or Change and Passing Strange. I was obsessed with Passing Strange and saw it 7 times. So call me an old fuddy duddy if you wish, but I don't think I am. (I'm also 25 btw)

Posted: 3/18/09 at 11:45amApologies to my friend Walter...you are not included in the dregs of the earth and you are certainly very sophisticated. Like YankeeFan, you realize that the show is crap, but you enjoyed it for making fun of itself. I don't agree with you, but I can understand why you feel how you do.

Posted: 3/18/09 at 11:46amHmm...I'm checking this out next week. Keeping as open of a mind as possible, but it sounds a little "We Will Rock You"-esque, and I hated that show (granted, I saw only the Vegas version). And I like Queen a lot more than I like Journey.

But you act like a fuddy-Duddy. What kind of music do you like anyhow? But in a nut shell, Rock of Ages, is an interactive musical that is set up like an 80's Rock Concert. That is why at least when it was on off Broadway, they handed you these lcd soft lighters, so you can hold them up during certain songs.
The musical is supposed to be fun, light hearted.

Posted: 3/18/09 at 11:58amCalvin is a fuddy-duddy? That's new. But seriously, Rock of Ages sounds quite different from We Will Rock You, which attempts to be a somewhat serious sci-fi book show. It sounds like the only similarity they may share are the use of 80s rock tunes.

"It is wonderful to be able to have an intelligent discussion about a show that we disagree on."
Yes, if calling everyone who liked ROA the dregs of the earth is an intelligent discussion, then carry on with your level of intelligent discussions. Your idea of intelligent gives me cause to wonder about yours.

Maybe it was just the production I saw, but WWRY showed no signs of being a serious book show to me.
When I saw that there was a character named Galileo Figaro, I was about ready to leave the theater then. And the Killer Queen made me think Rita Repulsa got lost on her way to Power Rangers Live.
Was the Vegas production vastly different than the one elsewhere? (shortened, I'm sure...) Sorry to be veering off-topic here!

" Like YankeeFan, you realize that the show is crap, but you enjoyed it for making fun of itself."
Oh brother, you are SO out of the loop-WAKE UP! Don't you realize that the reason we like the show is greatly because it's camp? Are you that naive that you think we consider this to be serious, high art? You have a lot to learn about theater and life in general. In other words, you are no where near being sophisticated.

Boy are you out of it. First of all, you hit the all time low with calling me and others "dregs of the earth" so don't go complaining about personal attacks from me.
Second of all-another thing you don't get is that this has NOTHING TO DO WITH ROA, OR ANY OTHER SHOW. It's all about you thinking you're so much better than everyone who like something that YOU DIDN'T GET.

Posted: 3/18/09 at 12:16pm...and scene. Argument over! Please?
#64re: ROCK OF AGES First Preview Thoughts
Posted: 3/18/09 at 12:17pmNo, I'm still angry, Without a Trace. You personally attacked me and others on a very low level because we have a different opinion than you do. I've heard no retraction, regret, nor apology from you.

ROCK OF AGES is a fun campy show that I love and adore and it will be a hit on Broadway. I am so glad that people are able to eat, drink, talk and sing along with the show, because it adds to the "experience" of it all. While the book may not be crafted as well as say, the book to GYPSY, it is still a lot of fun and belongs on Broadway. The people who enjoy ROCK OF AGES are gems of the earth and are very sophisticated patrons of the arts. I can't wait to see this show again, not only for the talent on stage, but just to have a rockin' good time!!!!
Argument over.

Without a trace, I"m prepared now to call it a day on this topic, and it's necessary because you still don't get it, judging by your last post.

Yeah, it would appear there is a lot WithoutATrace doesn't get. Like the fact that people may respond negatively when you insult them.

Posted: 3/18/09 at 1:05pmIn Vegas, my chips are prettier and I usually get my drinks for free. But yeah, I get it. This show is different than other Broadway shows. I still say, "So what?"
#71re: ROCK OF AGES First Preview Thoughts
Posted: 3/18/09 at 1:07pmsince water is usually $4 at a broadway show maybe it includes a tip? *shrug* I hope it does, cuz the waitresses wont be getting any tips if theyre discouraging the use of money...
#72re: ROCK OF AGES First Preview Thoughts
Posted: 3/18/09 at 4:05pmwhat is a top drink. But honestly drinking is an option. and you don't notice the waitresses in there, unless you are looking to buy a drink. And then they are still hard to find, lol But if you want a play were you can relax and have a good time. And like Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. this is would be the idea Musical. But it isn't for everyone.
#73re: ROCK OF AGES First Preview Thoughts
Posted: 3/18/09 at 4:11pmI have to say, I was in row G of the mezz and did not notice any watiers/waitresses walking by at all during the show (which I was very happy about).
