a top shelf drink is usually the good sh*t. Midori sours are usually top shelf for example cuz youre naming a specific *brand* of alcohol, as opposed to a type of alcohol.
so if you want a vodka cran, you can get it with the $10 chip but they might not give you the best vodka ever made.
<< I just find it truly shocking how any intelligent person could find this entertaining. The only audience I could see having a good time at ROCK OF AGES are drunken frat boys and girls gone wild. I felt like I was in a vegas strip show last night, and I really needed a shower afterwards. >>
Wat... you know I think you're a great guy, but dont you think you are going just a TAD too far with the insults? I mean... first, "dregs of the earth", and now no intelligent person should like this?
Its funny, because you mentioned a few shows in a prior post that are my faves. "Caroline or Change" and "Ragtime"-
(I would add "Dessa Rose" to my list as well.)
I dont think any of them are really mainstream. But just like I wouldnt consider people that love those shows as much as we do brilliant and/or intelligent people, I wouldnt refer to people that love "ROA" dregs or unintelligent.
Its just different tastes. I dont think you can judge a person's I.Q by the type of entertainment that they like.
Yeah, that insert thing freaked me out when I first saw it !!!
I thought it was an understudy insert, but then I read it, and I thought... ok, here we go again.
People on the boards know that I was very outspoken about the whole alcohol thing during the Off-Broadway run, but I have to give credit where its due. The theatre did a good job handling it for the transfer, and I was lucky enough to have a pretty tame section. A fun section, but nobody was getting crazy (talking, singing out loud, drunk, etc)
I think it's wayyyyy to early to predict this a MEGA HIT
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.
"Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."
I think we all have.... Obviously, just my opinion, but I think this show could be huge.
I just think the show is a total escape, at a time when people really need it. I think it is like "Xanadu" in that it doesnt take itself seriously, but I think it appeals to a much wider audience, and I really think the reviews are going to be very good.
I'll have to agree with Testing, WAT, about your terminology regarding the ROA fans. You can say why you don't like something without insulting the show and its fans. You lose credibility that way.
While I don't think I'll ever see ROA (I don't care for '80's rock, for starters), but I hope it runs. There's obviously an audience for it, and maybe it will be their first Broadway show. And if they like it, maybe next time they'll see something a little more high-brow. Have a little faith in folk.
You can call it whatever you want - low-brow, poorly constructed, whatever. But the fact is, it's got TOURIST written all over it. It will run for a while.
Testing, I'm so thrilled that you love RAGTIME, CAROLINE OR CHANGE, and DESSA ROSE. I agree with you on all of the above that they are brilliant...and you are most certainly not included in my definition of "dregs of the earth." you know i value and respect you as a person.
I think it is like "Xanadu" in that it doesnt take itself seriously, but I think it appeals to a much wider audience, and I really think the reviews are going to be very good.
You also know that Xanadu was a flop?
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
Could someone who went actually write an INTELLIGENT, THOUGHTFUL, DETAILED review, instead of "OMG, it was SOOO fun!", and "I LOVED IT!", and "It's so cool - it'll run longer than CATS did!"?
For those of us who know nothing about it other than looking at the website and making our own assumptions, what's it about? Who are the characters? Does the music move the plot along, or is it a jukeboxical? Is this more of a Broadway show or a rock concert attempting to pose as a Broadway show? A comprehensive, more cohesive report would be very refreshing, especially after all the drivel that's been posted thus far.
I think the assumption here, since it was playing off b'way not too long ago and the show itself has been talked to death, is that it is not necessary to re-hash.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I think my post was the 2nd one in the thread.... I dont think it sounded "fanGUY-ish"---
And I think Drama hit the nail on the head--- there were plenty of Off-Broadway reviews, so I basically posted about the changes.
