Posted: 1/12/14 at 5:50pmMy question is WILL THERE BE BLOOD? Anyone who has seen the film knows that a lot of blood is spilled in the climatic scene. A good costume designer can wire the gloves to squirt stage blood and Rocky and Apollo can always bite down on stage blood capsules. I am interested to see how they manage this.

Posted: 1/12/14 at 7:25pmThere is blood. You can see it in the videos from the German production. The stage design is clever. I was at the press event for Rocky and the way the space is used is clever. I'm looking forward to this show. I'm more interested in this over Bullets and Bridges.

Good question among many other questions IMO. Will they have two actors that physically and athletically be able to look like a real championship heavyweight boxers? I am sure the physical demands of this show are quite taxing and wonder how they will be able to do these performances every night. Remember the classic fight went 15 rounds so it is not like they can be in the ring for only 2-3 minutes.

Andy Karl would probably be considered a middleweight but with good lighting and forced perspective scenic design they can make him seem bigger than he actually is. From the videos on the show's website he looks like he has been spending a lot of time at the gym while preparing for this role.

This was a pic that was tweeted during the Broadway Spotted Rocky thing the other night:

Ohhhh boy! That looks rough. #sweat RT @Margo_Seibert A: Boom! #RockyBroadway pic.twitter.com/23YGMFcLlD
He looks pretty bulked-up to me, though I'm not that familiar with what he usually looks like.
I think this show has alot of promise - I like the work of everyone involved - but then again, you never know....
Hoping to see an early preview. Did they announce rush or lottery yet? I haven't seen anything.

I am also looking forward to ROCKY. The original film is one of my favorites and is part of my childhood. I can't tell you how many times I have actually seen it because I've lost count, LOL.
The creative team on this is at the top of their game. The property is in good hands. I never, ever thought I would see ROCKY, of all films being turned into a musical but it really looks interesting and it will be great if they pull it off and have a long running hit on Broadway.
It's a great story.

Posted: 1/14/14 at 12:34pmI'm most looking forward to ROCKY because of composers Ahrens and Flaherty. A musical written by a team who still knows how to write a Broadway score. And I wouldn't worry about Andy Karl's appearance. I still remember the audience acknowledgement he got just by making his entrance in "Legally Blonde" in his UPS uniform. He was quite impressive just standing there flexing his muscles.

I know it's just a gimmick but I love this idea:
GOLDEN CIRCLE SEATING: Guests in Center Orchestra rows A-F will be escorted onto the stage to watch the climatic fight during the final 20 minutes of the performance. After ascending a small set of stairs, you will join this exclusive audience experience on bleacher-style seats. In order to be this close to the action, the show provides a free coat check, as you will only be able to take a small handbag or coat and will not be able to return to your original seats after the show ends.

His physical build was not my only concern. Will his boxing skills in show actually look good enough not to be laughable. This show will attract people who know boxing and they will be the hardest critics. Nothing ruins a show/movie about sports than actors not being credible with the athletic skills necessary.

Posted: 1/14/14 at 5:28pmThe German production was great, taking the audience on stage thing is done very well and then really makes it feel like a boxing match with the audiences sat on the bleachers. The final fight choreography is epic, I got a shiver down my spine watching it

Posted: 1/16/14 at 10:03amDoes the climatic scene really last 20 minutes??? I can't wait to see it. I usually prefer the front mezzanine but I may have to buy golden circle seating. I am already imagining what those 20 minutes will be like. Does anyone who has seen the show in Germany know if there if live singing or only musical underscoring during the climatic fight?

From what I've heard, the team is dedicated to making the fight look authentic- state-of-the-art makeup, physical training, extremely tight and rehearsed fight choreography, etc.
It is an insanely demanding show for whomever is playing Rocky.

Posted: 1/16/14 at 10:37amAn "authentic" 20-minute boxing match is not a selling point for me. Even one underscored by Flaherty's usually terrific music. But I can see how my opinion on this might be out of step with that of the masses.

IMO - Without authentic boxing match the whole show is pointless.

There may be an argument that the first four words of that sentence are redundant.
