The Kennedy Center cast has been told to keep the fall free. Currently the producers are working towards booking a theater. The Marquis (should 9to5 not last) or the Simon are the front runners.

It is coming. 100%
I believe they have booked the Neil Simon, but if 9 to 5 closes, I could see them switching over.
I suspect 9 to 5 will be around until the end of the year, though, making Catch Me if You Can a much more likely tenant for that theater.

They booked the Neil Simon. Why would they switch to the Marquis?

Even though the Marquis sucks balls in every way shape and form as a Broadway theatre, it has 200 more seats than the Simon and a better location.
Anyway though, the point is moot. Ragtime will open at the Simon.
Where to begin? It's hideous. It has no natural sound ambiance the way the old theatres do. Everything has to be pumped and piped in and mixed within an inch of its life. You have to enter the hotel to access the theatre. Once inside, you could be anywhere - you might as well be in any Marriott anywhere in the world, instead of on Broadway. And the Marriott Marquis Hotel itself is a soul-crushing dispiriting construction that absolutely ruined the heart of Times Square with its concrete natural light blotting ugliness, not to mention the three active Broadway theatres and two former Broadway theatres and the Piccadilly Hotel being torn down to build it.
Has this been officially announced? Or just speculated because of the casting notices that went out?
Why does everyone think 9 to 5 is going to close? It's making above its' nut.
just speculation because of the casting notices.
Just some more Marquis criticism-
I don't despise it the way a lot of posters do, but I do feel as if I'm on a cruise ship whenever I visit. So with that being said, I'd hope Ragtime takes the lovely Neil Simon and 9 to 5 stays put.

Well, I've never been inside the Marquis (though I might this summer if my friend gets tickets to 9 to 5) but I do remember when I saw Hairspray two years ago how beautiful I felt the Neil Simon was. It'd be really nice if Ragtime moves there.
But regardless of what theatre it'll be in, the fact that this amazing production is being transferred is amazing!

While the Neil Simon is a beautiful theater, if Ragtime production is a big one, it's gonna have an awfully tough time of fitting in there. The wing space at the Neil Simon is TINY.
And I do agree with everyone else. There is this sort of fake/sanitized/plastic feeling to the Marquis theater. However, the sight-lines are great from pretty much everywhere.
The Marquis is the number 1 choice because there is no space limitation. The Simon is a bit more problematic, but it might be the only available option.
