I am really thrilled for Sting and for Vicky Clark! Sting worked so incredibly hard, he was at the theatre every single night (I used to watch him in the back row of the theatre at The Simon, before he went into the show working on the score.)
As for Ms. Clark? She's bringing more and more to her performance every week. I cannot believe that her performance could continue to grow (because it was so terrific to begin with) but it has grown and grown. Amazing.
The testament to both of these nominations from both "The Last Ship" and "Gigi" is that when you put your whole heart into something, it shows.
I honestly don't think there is a spoiler this year. FH is sure to win.
(hopefully giving A8 a conniption fit in the process)
No major complaints about the nominations this year though I wish that Rachel Tucker (The Last Ship) and Francesca Faridany (Curious Incident...) had got nominations for their work. I loved their what they did. I say this in respect of their performances rather than disrespecting the work of the nominees.
I'm delighted that Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett were nominated for Best Choreography for Curious Incident... The movement was such an integral part of that show.

For me a few of my predictions were off, but mostly they got replaced with people I would have preferred but didn't think had a chance (Brandon Uranowitz, Sarah Stiles)
My only major disagreements are Bryce Pinkham missing out, and Ken Watanabe's nom. I would have preferred Peter Gallagher, Matthew Morrison, Rob McClure, John Cariani, or even Roger Rees. But overall, very happy with the selections.
"I didn't go to many of the play revivals this year, but how on earth did This is Our Youth get nominated?"
It was a very good production of a fine play which got excellent reviews. That's how.
The Times Rave
It's also a much better play than Heidi. And always was.
So pleased with the Fun Home love, but especially for the set and lighting noms, as I thought they'd be overlooked.
BTW, people don't/shouldn't get nominated for paying dues.

I love how two of Gene Kelly's film characters (Gabey in "On the Town" and Jerry in "An American in Paris) were both nominated this year against each other!
A Kuhn/Lucas divide could well pave the way for Ruthie Ann Miles to win.
So happy for K. Todd Freeman! I'd be over the moon if he won, but with SIX nominees in the category, I know it's a long shot. As far as Finding Neverland, I really haven't read anything to lead me to believe it would receive any particular nominations, so I don't find its shutout that surprising.

Scott Pask should have been nominated for both Airline Highway and The Visit.

I wonder whether it's possible that the pretty much equally lauded AN AMERICAN IN PARIS and FUN HOME will cancel each other out, allowing SOMETHING ROTTEN to sneak in for the win.
Scott Pask had 5 sets on Broadway this season! It really is a shame.

I like this piece going on by the New York Times where they have some professionals discussing nominations. Especially their points about Finding Neverland suffering due to Weinstein's cavalier attitude about producing on Broadway.

Excited about the score nom for The Last Ship and for Kristin, Andy Karl and other OTTC noms!!

"This is Our Youth" got excellent reviews, and I'm very glad the Tony nominators remembered it; I thought it was a very fine revival. Sad that "Side Show" didn't get any noms. As for "Finding Neverland", given that it bombed with the critics, I'm not surprised it didn't get any noms, although I thought Morrison might sneak in.

"If Honeymoon in Vegas just stayed open 3 more weeks, these nominations would have been completely different"
That's completely untrue.
I think its true because I think they would have been nominated for Best Musical, Score, Lead Actor, Orchestrations, and possibly featured actress, featured actor, and choreo. We will never know though

Even if 'This is Our Youth' wasn't that great, I'm so glad it got in over 'It's Only A Play', which was crap. And I love Micah Stock and thought he was terrific, but not Tony nom worthy, especially that part. It was the perfect debut role, where he got to outshine all his superstar castmates, but it would have been like a good stepping stone to a Tony-worthy NEXT role. Featured actor in a play is just so so weird.
Sad for Rob McClure. I just hope we see him again soon because he is so great! And I'm so happy for The Last Ship's score nom. That music was so perfectly haunting and lovely. I still think about it 6 months later.
The nominators see all the shows. So it staying open longer has no bearing on the outcome at all. The show was seen.
Phil, that's what you think. Of course, other closed shows did get nominations - and closed shows have received nominations in the past. So, I don't know on what you base your thoughts - but those are your thoughts. But then you were certain that Mia Michaels' was being nominated for choreography.
I don't have much to rant about - indeed, the Committee seems to have gone for what it viewed as "best" and not as most "commercial" - given the absence of nominations for Hugh Jackman, Nathan Lane, Fleming and Neverland.

IF Kelli O'Hara loses yet again (praying it won't happen), will she become the performer that lost the most times?
yeah and Honeymoon was critically acclaimed. It would have gotten a lot of nominations. How can you say that wouldn't happen?
"yeah and Honeymoon was critically acclaimed. It would have gotten a lot of nominations. How can you say that wouldn't happen? "
Because plenty of shows that got nominated are now closed, and have been closed for way longer than Honeymoon in Vegas.
The show could have run another two, three, four, six, nine, twelve weeks; it still wouldn't have been nominated. The nominators saw it, and it didn't happen. That's that.

I wish Francesca Faridany, Bryce Pinkham & Rob McClure received nominations.
While I personally didn't really care for the Side Show revival, I'm surprised they were left out for Best Revival.
Other than those comments, the nominations were pretty much what I expected. I'm happy for The Last Ship being nominated for best score - I though it was really beautiful.

Not much to rant about, except I wish SideShow was chosen over On the Town. But, the three that were chosen are all three really strong revivals. I'm kind of glad now Jennifer Hudson performed the song from Finding Neverland last year, since they won't be performing this year. Unless, Harvey sneaks his way in. Besides that, I was screaming when Kuhn, Skeggs, and Lucas were nominated.
