Raquel Welch, the actress who became an international sex symbol in the 1960s, died this morning at the age of 82, according to her family. No reason was given, other than she suffered a 'brief illness'. It was noted the actress was rarely seen in public since the pandemic started three years ago.
On Broadway, Welch played Tess Harding, in the 1981 musical 'Woman of the Year' when she replaced Lauren Bacall who was on vacation (Dec 01, 1981 - Dec 14, 1981), and then when Bacall left the show, she returned from Jun 29, 1982 - Jan 02, 1983. She came back to Broadway to replace Julie Andrews as 'Victoria Grant' in the 1995 musical 'Victor / Victoria' at the end of its run (Jun 10, 1997 - Jul 27, 1997).

She was great in "Woman Of The Year," and did the national tour for well over a year.

She brought a lot of star magic to woman of the year. She was very good in it . Saw her many times during her turn at the palace.

I loved Fantastic Voyage when I was a wee lad. Not only was she beautiful but she had a sense of humor about her which made her a star. RIP

That is such sad news. She was also very funny. I loved her on Seinfeld when she played herself satirizing her rumored reputation of being a Broadway diva. She was much more than a pretty face. 😢

Too bad ALW didn’t get her for SUNSET BOULEVARD back in 1996 when Buckley left. She would have been a convincing silent screen star with her beauty.

She was busy replacing Julie Andrews in “victor/Victoria”, only saw her once in but she was the most glamorous (I saw Julie, Anne, Liza, Tara)
