Rave Reviews= Flop???

I remember this year, the play "Well" got rave reviews across the board and it still closed very soon, any more examples?

Caroline, or Change. I thought that got good reviews. And it closed really too early.

re: Rave Reviews= Flop???

Caroline or Change had a few very positive reviews, but by and large, the critics were unsupportive.

re: Rave Reviews= Flop???

Neither CAROLINE, OR CHANGE nor SOUVENIR got rave reviews. CAROLINE's were decidedly mixed (though many mixed to positive) and SOUVENIR got good notices for Kaye - luke-warm if not cold for the play itself.

What kind of reviews did PARADE get?

SIDESHOW got a rave from the TIMES.

Others were mixed though.

Caroline, Or Change was decidedly mixed critically. However, it had and still has a great support base on BroadwayWorld.com.

Did LA BOHEME really open to raves? I do not recall that being the case...

DRG: If you have a problem with me, you can always PM me, it looks very tacky to say bad things about me on here, it shows what a low-class bitchy queen you are.

re: Rave Reviews= Flop???

I really don't give a flip what the critics say about any shows, because 99% of the time, they have no clue what they're talking about. I wonder how many critics really have any musical knowledge or experience. Very few, I'm sure... so how can they accurately critique a musical? Every once and a while I'll come across a review of a show I find helpful and insightful, but most of the time, they're full of crap. I'm currently reading "The Art of the American Musical" and listening to Ahrens & Flaherty and JRB's opinion on them was really interesting.

Tee hee, I'm a "low-class bitchy queen"!

Sorry dude, but your track record of The Wedding Singer, Wonderful Town, Bombay Dreams and The Woman in White just add up…

You know, your comment would be valid if you actually had seen any of the shows you talk about, by the way, you loved 3Penny that was critically panned across the board. You are dirty, rotten, and my thread didn't insult anyone, i don't know why are you so angry and bitter that you have to constantly try to humiliate me, i'd recommend you to go to a good mental institution(aka asylum), or just let your anger out in another way, maybe a journal? Anyways, i am not even going to grace you with any more answers, you are so low, that you don't deserve me talking to you. If you dislike me, i have a good idea, don't read or participate on my threads, and if you do, at least read what i am talking about, becuz the subject had nothing to do with me or my reviews, it was about shows that got rave reviews from the critics and still flopped. Get it right! Ok, now im going to a fabulous beach party and you are not! Happy 4th of July Dirty Guy!

re: Rave Reviews= Flop???

This is an interesting topic - here in London musicals such as 'The Producers' and 'Mary Poppins' got fantastic reviews, but aren't the sell-outs they were expected to be. And I fear that the wonderful revival of 'Evita', with all its fantastic reviews, could go the same way.

DRG- That was really rude and unnecessary.

The only two that are really sticking out in my mind ('Souvenir' and 'Well') have already been mentioned. I don't think this is really a veryf requent happening, because a lot of people do base their viewings largely on reviews.
