Isn't it weird that it would be both an cast recording and a soundtrack?
sounds like fun....I always with the OBC of RENT had been recorded live.
i would love for them to record the cinecast for CD. i'd definitely listen

Totes.
I don't think it would be a cast recording and a soundtrack I think it would just be a cast recording. A soundtrack usually implies that there was some sort of pre recorded music involved. But, that isn't the case with Rent on Broadway. They just filmed and recored the cast on stage doing the show. Now, had the cast gone into the studio to record vocals to go with what was going to be seen on film then that might be a different story.
I would like a recording of the Rent cast that is live. I think it was the German production that recorded their album a la Passing Strange or Brooklyn did on Broadway. They had fans in the theatre who cheered etc when they were recording and you are able to hear them on the cd.
I'm going to try to rip the audio from it when the DVD comes out. So if anyone wants it PM me NOW with the name RENT CR & I will return the them when I get it done.
I would definitely buy one.

I thought I read somewhere that they did "sweeten" some of the vocals in post production, so not all the vocals are truly "live", but I guess if there was one released, I would include it as a "Live Cast Album" in my collection.
Semantics!!!
I have 8 takers, & I'll send it out to only 22 more people.

Once the DVD comes out just get an audio rip of it
That's what I'm doing. 19 spots left people.

audio is already floating around if you know where to look.

It's not like you're the only person who can do it. I'll do mine myself, thanks. Though I'm still not convinced that a DVD will actually be released.
I'm not saying you can't but some don't know how too.

every cast member i've talked with has said to me "just wait for the dvd". i would assume that means it's a go.
Didn't some one see Rodney at the theatre & said that it was being released on DVD with a new documentary.
I'm just saying... just because the cast has been told there will be a DVD, and even that seems sketchy because "just wait" is not a clear answer, that doesn't mean the money will come through or that Sony is even interested in putting forth the cost for a DVD release. It still might depend on the box office numbers. I'd love for it to be released, but I'm not seeing anything official.

yes, they are filming a new documentary. we were told that by the people who were filming it during the last week of the show. no one seems to know the exact release date. i've heard everything from it will be out for christmas to it will be out in march and everything in between. january would make the most sense to coincide with the tour.

I hope it does get released for the tour. I have opening night tickets :)

It would actually be kind of nice to have an English CR that doesn't have the OBC for once
I would like it just to listen to Goldsberry, but overall, I much preferred the original cast.
