There is no way to know what Jonathan would want.
Perhaps it is a ghost of what it once was. That is a matter of opinion. And a matter of producers. Oh producers.
Of course theres no way of knowing. But all these over obsessed people writing in here that don't realize they are just feeding the hands of the producers and misplacing their obsession on commercialism... makes me wonder
Their not being fans of the show or message.. they are just keeping the cash cow open for the already rich producers. What is on display on that stage right now is abominal.

I am not beating a dead horse.
Or maybe I am.
But could you provide examples?
I know we have a thread like this weekly, but never are examples provided. So if you would be so kind, I would be eternally grateful. You can call me a hussy again, too, if you want.
I can offer one perfect example. Go see the show. You will see people on that stage just going thru the paces. You will see really really bad stunt casting. You will hear a band whose decibel has been raised considerably to compensate for something. You will also see many, many, non English speaking tourists that have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on in that stage. And if you see through all that.. you will see one very dated peice of theater.
i was just joking about being in denial about rent closing (when it actually does) dont take things overboard, that was my way of displaying my respect for the show. and broadwaydiva, when i say you are "worse than i am" it is a very warped compliment, thats all.
i havnt seen the show in a long time, i am a fan of the origional incarnation, and what versions i have seen have also been good. i wouldnt want it to continue if its no good now, but i havnt been able to see it to make that judgement, so my participation in this argument (that is not what it was when i origionally posted) was only to declare that fact that i am a fan of the show, and not really to argue that the show should stay open for forever, just long enough for me to see it again
so am i still a hussy? maybe its unavoidable, sigh.

Well, I've seen the show. Recently. On a number of occasions. You present your statement as though there are more specific examples than that. I do not see what the show itself has to do with non-English speaking tourists (which I've never noticed a plethora of, and whom you can find a number of places in the theatre district). I agree that the band is loud, but the band's always been loud. I also agree that the show has, in a sense, become dated but I do not find that reason for it to be closed. So you're not really selling me, but I suppose you don't really have to. I'm not trying to defend, I just tire of the general statements that are made about this show on this board, without any backup of substance.

You are still a hussy. A smart hussy. I am also a fan of the original incarnation and have seen it throughout the years. Thats why I hate seeing it how it is now. I can tell you that during the last 1 1/2 years of a chorus line a creepiness and sadness had crept into the Shubert theater. The same is evident at rent now. Out of love for the peice i wish the producers would have enough respect for the show and conclude its brilliant broadway run.
girlfriendfromcanada,
You seem to be one of those people that is over obsessed with the show. If you want me to get into the kind of specifics you do ( so and so was off key.. so and so trashed that song) I wont. The show as a whole is tired. TIRED!!! I bet you are incapable of seeing whats up there on that stage anymore. Just what you conditioned yourself to see. I love rent. Whats going on that stage right now is not the rent that I love. it is a ghost. Or a museum peice if you will.

Ok. I can respect that.

Wait a minute, when I said that, with specifics, nobody respected my saying that. DAME, how do you do it?
Namo,
Key ingredient is love. lots and lots of love.

To hell with love.
No word from Corine today Namo?

I suspect Namo is saving himself for a certain someone at the benefit. If Corine does attend I want a ringside seat for the catfight over Namo.

I said it before and I'll say it again. To hell with love. And DAMN whomever it was who authorized THE CHANGING OF MIMI'S PANTS.
I agree with Elphie...I love RENT and would be sad to see it close, but the message and inspiration are becoming just a ghost of what the show used to be. It would be disrespectful to Jonathon Larson to drag it out for another few years and watch it die. It should go out with a bang and then have an amazing revival.
whoa... I'm sort of late to developments in my own thread... developments, which, for lack of time, I will not comment on. But, StateofJade, that's what I'm trying to figure out. One of the girls said she found out on "the website." Who knows if that's some random Rent site, or the official one? Obviously, there would be a LOT of buzz about something like that happening... so I was trying to figured out where they'd get that from.
