I know, I know... not another rumor...
But I had a few friends come running frantically to me today saying that they heard Rent was closing in July. One said she saw it on "the website" (but who knows if that's siteforrent.com or some other site) and one said she tried to order tickets and couldn't for after a certain date. I told them to relax - if it was closing, I probably would've heard.
So I'm off to check broadway.com, siteforrent.com, etc... but has anyone even seen where this rumor came from?
Thanks guys!
No. No no no no no!
aw, CATSNY, please don't cry.
I can't find anything on it anywhere. I knew it wasn't true... now I'm just curious where these girls found this random crap.
JONATHAN Larson is too talented for RENT to close. It is his spirit and his life. I know it has to close one day, but it's gonna be very hard for me to cope with.... Updated On: 4/27/04 at 08:20 PM

ticketmaster and other ticket sites have stopped selling tickets past August 28, 2004. the show may not close, as one of the lachey brothers (i think drew) is supposed to enter the cast in september.

Puleeeze don't overreact. The "Rent closing" rumor has been ignited at least every couple of months since '97.
it cannot close before september (when i move to the city- not when the boyband guy starts) i forbid it.
Luvtheemcee, I'm just curious, where did your friends hear this rumor?

It's more than likely that RENT will survive the summer, but close when all the teeny boppers head back to the classroom. If you peruse the box office grosses, you'll realize that the show hasn't been bringing in the crowds lately and closing is a reality.
(putting hands over ears and singing loudly in denial)
RENT RENT RENT RENT RENT WE'RE NOT GONNA PAY RENT...
CAUSE EVERYTHING IS RENT!
(To the above message) Uh I don't think that's very healthy lol.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! It can't happen!!!!!! I think I might just die....Now I need to go listen to RENT.....
"there's only us, there's only this, forget regret, or life is yours to miss...no day but today......VIVA LA VIE BOHEME!!"
for the record, she is far worse than i am
For the record, the two of us are far worse than nystateomindO4 is....
For the record... you are all a bunch of HUSSYS!
Yes- I know- I'm pathetic... but at least there are other pathetic people here who do mourn over things like a rumor...

I really think the show can keep going with a volunteer cast and band and crew.

I really hope you are all kidding.
Do you guys SERIOUSLY think Rent would just close without some big announcement and marketing plan to make as much money as possible in it's final months? I will give you the benefit of the doubt, but just learn that ticketmaster sells in BLOCKS. Go see if you can buy tickets for September for ANY show and I bet more often than not, there are no tickets available. That's just how it works. Continue to keep that in mind for the next closing scare. Also keep in mind that every year, it will "close" because the "teeny-boppers" go back to school. As history has proven.
I doubt that's true. As someone already mentioned, Drew Lachey (the 98 degrees heart throb) will be entering the cast as summer fades away and I also heard that Frenchie will be making a return in the fall as well. So at one point, Scary Spice, an American Idol contestant, and a boy band member will all be under the same roof. Joey Fatone's run in RENT was during September to Decemeber and he managed to keep people coming, even though it is when the "teeny boppers" are back in school.
I'll probably get attacked for saying this, but I dont think RENT should be dragged on anymore. I think it should close with a bang and then reopen in 5-10 years with even more fire as a revival. It would attrack a whole new generation and the past RENTheads would be able to remember their youth growing up to the words of Jonathon Larson. I think something like that would be a good idea.
HUSSYS! I am sorry.. but you all deserve it twice.

I like when people care about Jonathan's message and legacy so much, they spell his name wrong. That's my favorite part.
I wonder ...if it was true that people really cared about his legacy... would the show been aloud to run this long when it is a ghost of what it used to be and therefore misrepresenting the authors original work?
