Sort of...IIRC, the 1987 revival did use Hal Prince's original staging, but there were several differences in which songs were included, which sort of disqualifies it from being an "exact copy" IMO. Unless you meant the recent revival, which was, of course, a replica of an earlier revival, not a copy of the original.

The upcoming revival of How I Learned to Drive has started a bit discussion on this board due to its being a remount of the original. This was a similar situation to Blackbird a few years ago, which was also considered a revival.

I believe the recent revival of Cats was pretty much the same as the original, with some changes to the staging, and some updated choreography by Blankenbeuhler.

Any particular reason for believing that? I saw the plays at Second Stage back in 2012 but I don’t remember it well enough to recall if there are any specific parts of the script that call for updating.

I'm just thinking that, over the years, certain lines are being revised a little. Nothing drastic!!

Return engagements or "recreations" happened a lot more during the golden age. It was actually more rare to have a revival that deviated substantially from the original production; some of that may have been due to the fact that the original creators were still alive and working, or the revival came in as a tour stop (aka, the set was scaled back).

West Side Story
Oklahoma!
Fiddler (all pre-2006 revivals)
Dreamgirls
A Chorus Line (2006)
Mame 1983
Hello, Dolly! in the 70s and 90s and even 2017
A few different productions of My Fair Lady, King and I, and La Mancha that weren't carbon-copy revivals but were pretty damn close in the staging, design, and even casting.

The success of No, No Nanette in 1971 might have had something to do with people realizing that it's GOOD to reexamine an older show! (And something like Show Boat, which has never had two of the same production.)

Depends on who you ask. Personally, I thought the changes were pretty drastic, irritating and distracting. I would have preferred a replica production but that’s just me.
