Thanks! I'm seeing this in two weeks. I've not seen Evita before, so I was looking forward to it. Even moreso now.

I am SO glad this seems like it will be a hit - and GOOD for Elena Roger!! What an awesome experience -- and she sounds like she is doing an incredible job!

I can't wait to hear the CD either :)
I hope if it transfers here that she comes with it.

Looking at the song list on the website, it seems as if they are cutting "And the Money Kept Rolling In"...is that accurate?? re: Review - Evita 1st Preview London - I Like You Must Love Me

that has to be some kind of oversight. it's listed on the track list for the CD on amazon.co.uk. but then "Another Suitcase In Another Hall" is listed as being sung after "Buenos Aires" like in the movie. I dunno which is correct. I was hoping for a revival, though, that they would have included "The Lady's Got Potential" with the revised lyrics from the movie, but it is nice to see that the full version of "Eva's Sonnet" from the concept CD is back in (hopefully). I can't believe that they decided not to record a complete 2 CD cast recording. It would have been nice to have a CD that incorporates the "updates".

"Someone on another board says that "You Must Love Me" is actually performed in a very different way here than the film."

Michael Bennett---Well, it would HAVE to be, since it was done as a voice-over during a montage of scenes in the movie.

I hope they don't do the ending like the recent tour. I loved the tour and the score, but the ending was just so sudden. He was like "...And they never found her." BLACKOUT. It needs to end differently.

I loved that entire production! I can't get over the dancing. Sarah Litzinger was great in it! and the actor that played Che was fantastic as well.

At what point in the show does Eva sing "You Must Love Me"? I hope she also sings "Another Suitcase In Another Hall" because it would give more depth to her character. As for the mistress, they could do the "HELLO AND GOODBYE" segment they used in the movie, with the mistress singing the last verse and chorus of "Suitcase." I'm kind of bummed they didn't include "THE LADY'S GOT POTENTIAL." I don't particularly care for "THE ART OF THE POSSIBLE." It's also too bad they're not releasing a complete recording. The original London recording only has highlights as well. Thank God for the original Broadway recording.

Peron's Mistress sings 'Another Suitcase In Another Hall.' Lorna Want was great in this song; she has a really beautiful, pure voice.

'You Must Love Me' is after 'Waltz For Eva And Che' and she sings it to Peron. It was a beautiful moment, as it really wasn't directed purely at Peron, and I felt that it really showed how Eva knew she was failing and wanted support.

'The Money Kept Rolling In' is in the show.

I'm glad they added "You Must Love Me" to the stage version. I've never been a huge fan of EVITA's score, though I like most of ALW's stuff, there are a couple of good songs in it, like "High Flying, Adored". I just hope they would have kept the original arrangement and orchestration of "You Must Love Me" for the stage - I thought the very plain and simple arrangement sounded fabulous and sounded great when sung by Madonna. Well, maybe the new arrangement will suit E. Roger's voice better than the simple one.

It must be an error on amazon.co.uk's part, then. Glad to hear it.

Hate to say I told you so... but ever since that track listing was released people got all worked up about the alleged "running order".

Oh and look its as some of us said. A corporate****up.

Could you say anything more about the designs? I'm very intrigued by your comments on the similarity to PIAZZA. I think this is a bold and useful approach, since the original designs were almost monochromatic, intended to give the entire production a black and white look. Eva war less and less color as the evening progressed, and in act two, except for her dark green robe (almost black), none. I think washing the show in Argentine sun, and giving us a bit of the real Casa Rosada makes good sense. Why not capitalize on the locale? Which Hal Prince, in his Brechtian motif, chose not to. It sounds like it's got warmer lighting, too.

Can you tell us about the colors? Are they sand and sun-washed like PIAZZA?

"I mean why recast an American when the whole point of this production seems to be getting an authentic Argentinian? I am seeing this production on June 17th and cant wait. Phillip Quast is a legend."

That was kind of a funny comment. I didn't realize Quast was Argentinian. LOL re: Review - Evita 1st Preview London - I Like You Must Love Me

I've never been fond of You Must Love Me. I just felt it was shoehorned into the film for an Oscar. It slows down the second act just before we have the Montage and Lament, causing it to drag in pacing. That song, I felt, was the beginning of the decline of Lloyd Webber. It's one of his duller melodies of which we would find more in the future.

Well no he is Australianre: Review - Evita 1st Preview London - I Like You Must Love Me

But in the interviews with the Guardian she made it clear that her nationality and "authentic" portrayal was key for her casting.

Dont get me wrong though I would love to hear Alice Ripley or any one of my fav divas take on the role on Broadway. Early days yet but you know what ALW is like. Once he gets it into his head that a particular diva is his diva well... just ask Shonagh Daly and how her debute album was £2 in the recent Virgin sale!

ljay889 - I believe the music was in the same key as Patti sang it in.

Greekmusicalfan - you're so sweet; glad you like my reviews. X

Auggie27 - the set is sand and sun-washed like 'Light In The Piazza. The set for the Casa Rosada is at the back of the stage. Underneath the balcony are archways with doors in them for some scenes. The two moving buildings are at either side of the stage. The building on stage right has a staircase leading up to a balcony, and the building on stage left has the balcony but no staircase. The three parts of the set create a central square in the middle of the stage, which increases and decreases in size as the buildings are moved further into the wings or further onto the stage.

I hope that makes some sense!
