I think most people here probably think Riedel is a blow hard who says controversial stuff to get clicks and have people talking about him and that he's wrong just as often as he is right. That's fine. That's his prerogative. But I've wondered for a while why there needs to be a thread created here for his every utterance. It's not done for anyone else. And it's not even about something notable. It's just hey Riedel said something. here ya go. Maybe others see more value in constantly discussing what Riedel thinks than I do. If so, enjoy!
I could see this going to something like 2nd Stage, but wasn't there another Robin Hood show - coming from Toronto - that never opened? It was going into the Marquis.
RippedMan,
There was indeed. It was titled "The Heart of Robin Hood" and never made it onto Broadway due to absurdly low ticket sales. It did very well in Toronto, where it had its try-out, but never made the leap although the producers initially "postponed" the engagement. It received mixed-to-positive reviews, but didn't have the appeal for a five month limited run apparently.
It starred Gabriel Ebert fresh off his Tony win and I was very excited to see him, as well as the show, back onstage. I've attached a highlight reel. It looks like it could have been a simple, cute night at the theatre.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival did a wonderful production of The Heart of Robin Hood. It was fun and popular with audiences.

I honestly think it's stranger when people who dislike Riedel and the threads about him, open said threads and comment about how they don't like Riedel threads. Do yourself a favor and just ignore them, I guess.

I don't open the threads. You'll not find a single comment from me in any of the other ones. I just felt it was time to ask the question cause I honestly don't get it and this seemed the most appropriate place to do it rather than starting a separate thread which I'm sure some others would have done. Hope that makes my comment feel less "strange" to you and thanks for the advice.

And here you are again, contributing to a Riedel thread. I don't know why you would waste your time, since you find them unnecessary. Seems strange.
"The Heart of Robin Hood" was also produced (for the Broadway run) with Fran and Barry Wessler. There was an ART production of the show before Toronto. I saw it there, and was quite surprised with the show. It wasn't a musical like a lot of the promo material and cast involved made it seem.
I love Douglas Carter Beane. However, are producers forgetting Lewis' last Broadway show, Lysistrata Jones? Running for a few weeks?

Maybe I just really enjoy watching you waste yours.

Carnzee, you are 100% correct.
It's really not very difficult. If you don't like the threads, ignore them.
I personally enjoy them, as I don't always have time to go to the New York Post. Second, they are always related to theater which is the point of this message board.
I'd rather read Riedel than see another thread about "who signs at the stage door," or "what show should I see."
Some posters like BroadwayRox3588 feel the need to complain and call Riedel garbage every chance they get. I don't understand the reason to constantly say it. If he's not for you, simply avoid the thread.

@Uncle Charlie, perhaps the better question is why BWW takes every one of his articles and makes it one of their lead stories of the site. If the site rips off his every utterance, I don't think a specific thread is that big of a deal.
@Jeffrey, if you continue to post the Riedel links before 10086 Sunset gets the chance, people may stop thinking he is really Riedel in disguise.

Because he's THAT much of a blowhard who says controversial things that one can't help but do this? Kinda reminds you of someone else who's name rhymes with frump? He's THAT much of a figure of ridiculousness in our world that he played himself on Smash in all his gossip column queen glory, which still in many ways shocks me that he was obviously willing to do so. He obviously knows what it is he does and was willing to play am even more heightened version of himself in a fictional yet still realistic enough version of this god forsaken industry.
Ok, silliness aside...I actually would never have known about this or even cared except someone I know apparently is in and posted this same thing. Once I saw it was Reidel I started questioning it's validity. BUT, usually one or two parts of whatever he "reports" ends being true to some extent.

Thanks for the shout-out!
It's just fun to speculate and wonder what's coming to Broadway, etc. I don't get why it's such a big issues. Let us discuss.

Have a look at the show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEafVKN6V5o
Gee, just what the world needs, another show about a group of actors getting together to tell a story, a play within a play. Sounds like a ripoff of Peter and The Starcatcher and The Robber Bridegroom. plus many others.
Yeah they sorta lost me on the actors playing their own instruments. I mean, it was a fun idea once... but ... yeah no. And I like the writer, but eh. This doesn't seem appealing.
There are 3 guitars used in the opening number. Outside of that only the traditional troubadour character of Alan A'Dale plays his own instrument, and in one other instance is a Lady in waiting accompanying a dance jig in Act 2. The show is backed by a 5 piece band. Not staged John Doyle or 'Once' style.
