73 is too young to die and it is especially sad to know that he was waiting to receive a lung for a transplant.
I saw Robert Goulet as Lancelot in the OBC of CAMELOT back in 1961. It is a tribute to his acting skills that I was annoyed at his coming across as so arrogant, when that is the nature of the character. I also love him on the OBCR of Kander & Ebb's THE HAPPY TIME.

What very sad news.
I had the pleasure of seeing Goulet in THE HAPPY TIME and LA CAGE, as well as a Music Fair tour of I DO! I DO! He was a charismatic performer and his voice was a true gem. His singing in LA CAGE was supple and rich--you'd never know that he was in his 70's when he did that show.
Musical Theater has lost a legend.
"May flights of angels sing him to his rest." (Shakespeare)
I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Goulet in three separate touring productions over the years; first in South Pacific, next in Camelot, and finally in Man of La Mancha.
As a matter of fact, the first professional musical production I remember seeing was Goulet as Emile DeBeque in South Pacific sometime around 1987. I can still remember how entranced I was by his "Some Enchanted Evening" and "This Nearly Was Mine".
I am so thankful that I was able to see this legend of the theatre perform and will never forget those experiences. I am deeply saddened by his passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and the rest of his family.
The theatre community has lost another one of its icons.
RIP Robert.
Mr Goulet starred in the 1st musical I ever saw, almost 27 years ago. His talent got me hooked on Musicals. I am sad, he will be missed..
RIP Robert. My thoughts and prayers are with his family..

He was a great performer. My prayers are with his family.
"Julie? Andrews? We're never losing her. Ever. I demand it."
Absolutely! Julie Andrews won't be leaving us for a long time.
There will be a cloud over CAMEL LOUNGE tomorrow.

If anyone wants to see him truly in his prime, the Broadway's Lost Treasures III DVD has a fantastic excerpt from "The Happy Time." He was a leading man of the first rank, certainly.

RIP Mr.Goulet
A legend who will never really leave Broadway. What an amazing career he had- his was a life well lived.
I was crying when I read this thread...now I'll make a vow that I'll never read it again. As the song from Curtains goes, "Rest in peace, the man is dead."

I just stopped breathing for a few seconds. I can't believe it.
R.I.P...to an icon.
"But if I'd ever leave you,
It couldn't be in autumn.
How I'd leave in autumn I never will know."
How could he leave in autumn?
Rest in peace Mr. Goulet.
I will be listening to camelot later on in the evening
this is truly upsetting
best wishes to his family during this unfortunate time
rest in peace mr. goulet
