This is so amazing and I'm so happy for him, but I'm so upset I'm leaving NYC next week

Wow!! I'll really miss Jonathan, but this is GREAT casting. So happy he was able to find another job (and one in Hamilton, at that) so quickly after Nerds. Happy for him!

Sucks that GroffSauce is leaving, but Rory will be fun! Good luck to Jonathan on his show :)

It does make me wonder.... I really expected Andrew Rannells to come back. I never saw Groffsauce - I saw Hamilton while he was away filming "Looking" and now I'm back in June and he's gone. Not in my cards I'm afraid. I'm happy that I saw him in The New Brain. Hope he comes back to the theatre quickly :)

I wonder what will happen if Jonathan Groff ends up getting Tony nominated.

Hooray! Psyched to see Rory in June.

I believe that the only opportunity Tony voters had to see the show was in August. I don't know if that will change, though, going forward, but I think it's safe to say most voters have already seen him.

Andrew Rannells is not available to come back. He starts filming the final season of GIRLS within the next month or two.

Honestly, if he gets nominated, I don't see him winning, simply because he has so much less stage time than Chris and Daveed (I think the other likely nominees) or even Anthony Ramos (not much buzz for him, but I'd love for him to see a nomination). He'll probably still attend the ceremony, and in a show with as much buzz as Hamilton, a nomination is still likely.

Plus, Rannells is already going to be announcing this year's Tony nominations with Patina Miller, so you can expect him to read out Hamilton as a nominee a lot.

He will either win or not win a Tony?

Untrue. However, Groff is the only one eligible for the nomination [ie not Rory.] I do think the fact that he's leaving early will hurt his chance of being nominated.

What is the track record like for actors who depart still running new shows prior to the awards receiving a nomination? I guess that it must be common for the actor contracts of shows that open in early summer to end that soon. In other words do the voters often " punish" actors who leave that early?

Great casting, but Im so glad I was lucky enough to see the entire original cast. Jonathan said a few months ago he would be staying until his contact was up in July but he obviously couldn't pass up a great television opportunity which probably gives him more than nine minutes screen time ![]()

Absolutely perfect choice. I loved Groff in the role and it's a shame he's leaving, but Rory is so talented and funny. I've accepted that it will likely be a long time until I see Hamilton again, but news like this makes me want to go back even more.

Madeline Kahn was still nominated for On the Twentieth Century after departing the production.

I think that's why I'm most upset, because Jonathan specifically said he would be there until July and I have tickets to see it June 22nd, and have been a huge fan of his for about a decade now. I was so excited to finally see him live! And then this is announced ten days before he leaves: obviously, yes, great job for him getting cast in this show! he had to move on eventually. I'm just sad
lol I guess it's kind of silly. Rory is very talented of course but nowhere near as exciting for me. Oh well!

I wonder when Brian D'Arcy James will return to play the King if ever.
