20 years after the last stage production of "RENT" is all but a memory, slacker will be sitting in his rocking chair, crotcheting a sweater and tending to his 30 some-odd cats, flipping through the channels and there she will be coming back to haunt him: Rosario Dawson as "Mimi" in a late night re-run of the 2005 movie version of "RENT".

Do you know what really irks me about all of this? It's not just that these Hollywood impostors have been skating their way through Broadway roles for years -- once those roles reach film where the real money and fame are, of course -- but now people have the nerve to insist that they actually have the ability to handle the role.
As I said earlier. If Rosario has what it takes, bring her down to the Nederlander and let her prove it. Otherwise she's just another in a long line of phonies making a mockery of Broadway on film. Saying in effect, "Anyone can do this."
As you are all acutely aware, anyone can't do this.
Just my 2 cents. I'm going to sit in my rocking chair now and work on crocheting a replica of my original "Rent" poster -- signed by the full cast.

OH. MY. GOD.
She can have what it takes to do this on film even if she doesn't yet have what it takes to do it live on stage eight times a week. They're two TOTALLY different animals, and I refuse to believe that you are ACTUALLY stupid enough not to see that.
Get. Over. It. By now, it's more like your two-hundred dollars.
Surely the cast would be proud to know that someone so against their current, heartfelt project is OH so in love with his/her poster. Please do go cling to it.

You know, some stage actors don't do movies because they can't.
It's two completely different mediums - few can do both WELL.
And Rosario is doing a stage show soon, so go see that.

slacker, Rosario Dawson doesn't need your approval. She has the approval of Chris Columbus, Adam Pascal, Idina Menzel, Anthony Rapp, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Taye Diggs, Tracie Thoms and The Larson Family not to mention:
Michael Barnathan, Paula DuPré Pesman, Allan S. Gordon, Geoffrey Hansen, Julie McCollum, Kevin McCollum, Mark Radcliffe, Jane Rosenthal, Lata Ryan and Jeffrey Seller, most of whom produced the original stage production.

She doesn't need my approval and I don't need yours. I'm free to post my opinion just as you are free to post yours.
I'm posting my opinion based on what little they're allowing us to hear of her live, and what little I've heard isn't good. And I'm NOT the only one who has come to that conclusion.
I'm not going to acquiesce to all of this nonsense just because it's "Rent" the movie, no matter how big a fan I am of "Rent" on Broadway.
You're a Rosario Dawson fan. That's nice. Just don't bring her to Broadway and go overboard pretending she's something she isn't and I won't have to keep pointing it out.

Nobody's bringing her to Broadway. The sound clips are studio-recorded, not live. Stop deludinggggg, and if you have such strong opinions, back them up correctly.
Just like you say Marquise can't convince you to like Rosario, it isn't your job to get him to "stop pretending" so that you won't be forced to so valliantly right the wrong and point it out for everyone. *headdesk* You're infuriating.

So enlighten me - what is she pretending to be?
The only thing she in pretending to be is Mimi. And that's her purpose.
Why not wait for the movie to come out? Hmmm?

The movie won't be good enough for you, will it? Perhaps you should be grateful ANYONE from the original cast is there.
And if Daphne is the only one you care about, then I'm sorry...but you'll have to get over it.

As for star quality - yes, just like a Broadway show, you need someone to draw in people.

i wasn't offering you my approval slacker. i'm just having so much fun reading your rants. i'm loving the fact that Rosario being in this movie irks you to no end. it brings a smile to my face and warms my heart that it bothers you so much and thatyou can't do a damned thing about it. sick, maybe. but it brings me IMMENSE PLEASURE.

This may be the last I have to say on this. Enjoy your movie. Just please don't try to tell me that Rosario Dawson is on a par with the performers who have done "Rent" live on Broadway or for that matter on tour. I find that bit of hype insulting.

Why can't people just wait until the movie comes out to judge her singing in the role.
Most people seeing Verona are saying her singing isn't up to par. But in the studio where I am sure is more easy going than live theatre, and some studio tricks - I'm sure she'll be okay.
