It's amusing to me how all of the theatre web sites keep using the word "EXCLUSIVE" about the most trivial of things, but I actually laughed out loud just now reading a Playbill 'Exclusive' about Rosie wanting to play Miss Hannigan.
https://t.co/7J2nFcC

Why did I laugh? Because I read the same Exclusive on BroadwayWorld -- TWO weeks ago...
https://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=181076

Is Playbill getting confused or desperate for 'scoops' or just lazy for what's already been said?

I think Rosie would be great in the part, but I'd be surprised if she was their first choice.

Actually, didn't Thomas Meehan say somewhere he wanted Meryl Streep (also unlikely)

God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there

Rosie sucks
She can't dance
Please give Ea-
sy Street a chance

She can't sing
Little Girls
She'll just shriek
Our lunch we'll hurl

Rosie sucks
Brings us peace
Send her home

Best reply EVAH! LOL!

My, my, my, Rosie has her publicist working overtime on this campaign.

Let's hope the producers have the forsight to listen to "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" on the Grease Revival cast album before they invite her in. It's like nails on a chalkboard.

The only positive thing I can say about Rosie playing a loud-mouth, mean, overbearing and disagreeable villain is, well, it wouldn't be a stretch. Updated On: 11/12/10 at 12:07 PM

It really boils down to this: Rosie can't handle the energy level of Easy Street. That number has to blast the roof off the theater. The only thing that works in Easy Street is when the three actors are crazy-boisterous. Any actress can make Little Girls work (some better than others), but Miss Hannigan has to blow the roof off on Easy Street.

If Rosie were a Republican, Goth would flood the boards with demands she be cast in everything from Mamma Mia to Naked Boys Singing.

Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer are both Republicans and I don't flood the board demanding they get cast in everything.

Jesus, no!

This whole thing reminds me of when Sean Young campaigned so psychotically hard for Catwoman.

Rosie, you are just not musical theater material. I know you have plenty of trouble admitting when you are wrong, but its time to be a big girl (no pun intended) and give it up.

My choices: Jackie Hoffman, Mo Collins or Lea Delaria.

Meh, I think Meryl Streep or Allison Janney would have been a better choice.

Yes, with Janney this could be as big a hit as 9 to 5.

Actually I'd like to see a reality show.

Rosie vs Andrea McArdle for Miss Hannigan

Andrea McArdle is doing a benefit show. Just as she gets to her signature song "Tomorrow" Rosie shows up in the back of the auditorium. Everytime Andrea sings the "mor" in the song, Rosie puts her hand under her arm and makes a fart noise.

Rosie is getting ready to record a Christmas album. She will duet with the most famous singers.

Rosie and Taylor Swift sing "The Little Drummer Boy"
Rosie and Kanye West sing "Baby It's Cold Outside"
Rosie and Sinead O'Connor sing "Fairytale of New York"

The night before the recording, Andrea calls up all the artists and tells them there is a change of venue and they are recording at a different location. Andrea shows up and records all the songs with the stars.

The Miss Hannigan Smackdown! Bring it on!

There are so many more interesting casting options for the role than Rosie and Andrea...

Gothampc....love that little ode of yours. The obvious choice is Andrea McArdle. Talk about full circle. As for Rosie.... nooooooooooo! from RC in Austin, Texas

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

There really is a long list of excellent actresses to play the role.

If you want to go "full circle" let Sarah Jessica Parker do it. Rather than bring a mean-spirited Hannigan, I can see her doing a Hannigan that's just drunk and depressed all the time. And her career could use an unsympathetic character to balance it out.

Christine Baranski, Swoosie Kurtz or Ellen Greene could all turn in interesting performances.

Harriet Harris or Michelle Pawk could play it.

If you want an overblown Hannigan (I mean that in a good way) Mary Testa or Lea Delaria.

If you want an outlier, Harvey Fierstein or Alan Cumming.

How I wish that Carol Burnett was still young enough to reprise her Hannigan from the film version.

Every time I see Rosie's name in print, I'm immediately brought back to that hideous television special she had on a couple of years ago. That's all the reason that's needed to keep her far, far away from Broadway.

I've said it on other threads, and I'll continue to repeat it: Miss Hannigan should be played by Jane Lynch.

Jane Lynch needs to get a better agent. Elisabeth Moss is doing "The Children's Hour" in London. Jane Lynch should be doing that role.

Jane Lynch would be fantastic and she'd pull in a crowd.

Other interesting options:
*Meryl Streep
*Emily Skinner
*Bette Midler
*Harriet Harris
*Christine Ebersole
*Queen Latifah

I also would love to see Chenoweth get down & dirty for the role. Could be a really interesting take on the role.

Nathan Lane on Rosie's show offered the following critique of Doug Henning's talent. It also applies to Rosie.

He's a triple threat, can't sing, can't dance, can't act.

Like Lina Lamont!

Anyway I think Janney or Streep would be great. If we're talking theater "names" as well, I think Beth Leavel, Emily Skinner, Nancy Opel, or Carolee Carmello could be great as well.
